1. Informative Speech Outline I. Introduction A. Attention Getter: "Men are pigs!" That is a statement you often hear from women who have been cheated on by their partner but, can men really help it? Or do they have a valid excuse for these seemingly poor decisions? B. Connection to Audience: For most of us who are in relationship, research data provided by the US Census bureau, and analyzed by Brian Strow in 2005, shows that in “the long run 2 out of 3 marriages don't work out, often due to the unfaithfulness of one of the parties involved.” C. Through my research which included a number of journals, news articles, books and peer reviews, has provide me with a lot of incite as to some of the problems concerning this issue. D. Thesis: Differences in the intelligent quotient of men show that intelligent men are less likely to cheat on their partner in a sexually exclusive relationship. E. Preview: I am going to discuss a little history, what our society considers cheating, and how this relates to the male intelligence quotient (IQ). (Transition: Let's first take a brief look at where it all started.) II. Main Point 1: More and more married couples end their marriage; one of the main reasons being, unfaithfulness. A. Lets briefly explore the early days of faithfulness and the start of "relationships". 2.Back in the day men roamed the planet in their bear skin outfits slinging around their clubs and spears, bringing back food and fornicate with every female they could get their hands on. 3.However, over the years society has changed and polygamy today is more the exception than it is the rule; society expects that both man and woman in a relationship are sexually exclusive. B. Men went from absolute freedom in their sexual conquests to more and more restrictions until eventually someone thought it would be a good idea to invent a phenomenon where a men and a woman both sign a contract that, from a man's perspective, basically states that they are no longer allowed to spread their manhood with any other female than the cosigner of this contract. C. This so called "marriage contract" has caused many problems over the years for both men and women. 1.However, D. Knox, author of “Men Are Dogs” in 2008 states that numbers show that men are more likely to dishonor this particular contract than women are (Knox, 1). 2. In the USA the divorce rate is at an all-time high. According to Claudia and Brian Strow, authors of "A history of divorce and remarriage in the United States” in 2006 stated that women have a 90% chance of getting married somewhere during their lifetime, however, within 10 years of marriage one-third ends up in divorce, in 15 years only 57% of marriage survive and after 20 years 2 out of three marriages end up in divorce (Strow, 1). (Transition: Now we have explored where it all started let's take a look at what today's society considers cheating behavior.) III. Main Point 2: Of course there are many reasons people separate but, one, probably the main reason is cheating. A. Dr. Genevieve Beaulieu-Pelletier, a psychotherapist and author of a number of books notes that resent studies show that between 40 and 70% of all partners in an "exclusive" relationship cheats. B. However, David Knox in the aforementioned article “Men Are Dogs” performed a study of the sexual behavior of 1394 undergraduate students at a large university, notes that there are significant differences between men and women when it comes down to the definition of the word cheating. 1.Many people see conditions of relationships differently, A. Kwak author of "Is Cheating the Norm? New Study Suggests Infidelity is More Common than Monogamy in 2008 survey suggests the following: flirting; only 19.6% of men belief that flirting constitutes cheating while 25.6% of women identify flirting as cheating behavior. 2.Kissing is defined more clearly but again there are differences, 7.1% of men, and only 2.6% of females view kissing as non-cheating behavior. 3. However in some cases, we do view some issue comparatively almost the same 97.2% of men and 99.2% of females view vaginal intercourse as cheating (Kwak,2). 4. This data implies that there could potentially be confusion between men and women when it comes down to the identification of infidelity. C. Why is it mainly men cheating on their wives and not the other way around? 1. This question can be answered by the evolution of the human race of the years. a) History shows that men have, until recently, always had at least one wife but, often more than one. b) Women have always relied on just one husband instead of multiple husbands; therefore women do not have that deep rooted little voice telling them, that it is ok to date multiple partners at the same time. 2. Neil Reynolds, author of 2010 article "The primitive argument for liberal genius," shows according to doctor Kanazawa, a renowned evolutionary psychologist at the London school of economics, the human species was divided into two groups about 10000 years ago; the conservative group and the liberal group. a) The conservative group is the group of men that was limited to hunting and procreation. b) The liberal group is the group that used its superior intelligence to understand advanced physics, like lightning (Reynolds, 1). c) This division is still evident in today's male behavior. (Transition: Now that we know where this all started, and what is considered cheating let see how we can link this to current times.) IV. Main Point 3: Today there still is a significant difference between conservative and liberal thinkers. A. On one hand there are the liberal thinkers, the more evolved men, the critical thinkers of today's society, the men that have not stood still over time, men who believe in progression, men who believe in change. 1. These liberal men are the ones you can trust to be in a healthy sexually exclusive relationship. 2. Liberal men have an average IQ of about 106; they have evolved over the years and are not afraid to adapt to new challenges set forward by society, these so called intelligent men go against human nature and have become less paranoid over the years. 3. This lack of paranoia has resulted in two changes in these men's vision of the world. a) Liberal men have adapted to the social standards that are held by society today, they do anything that, in their opinion, is linked to social and psychological progression. b) Liberal men often reject religion, since the liberal view of is that religion as based on human paranoia and therefore is no longer required to survive. B. On the other hand, there are the men with a low IQ, the hunters, procreators, or sexual predators of today's society. 1. In the article "The God Delusion" in 2007 by A. Vorda states that these less evolved men, the men who hold a strong conservative view are the ones who are causing all the relationship trouble. a) These are the men who are not capable of viewing things in a new and different light. b) They cling on tight to tradition, religion, and other relics of our evolutionary past (Vorda, 2). 2. These primitive and conservative attitudes towards life cause a lack in the ability to adjust to current times and are according to Dr. Kanazawa, a significant cause of cheating men. 3. These men have evolved according to the Darwinian Theory, but, as Dawkins states in his research, they have evolved by natural selection, however, not by intelligent design (Dawkins, 4). V. Conclusion A. Now you know why intelligent men don't and stupid men do cheat, you should have less trouble finding your perfect mate. B. Maybe it is time to check on your new boyfriend or girlfriend, check their credentials, and check their educational background and maybe you can even get him to take an official IQ test as a requirement before that precious first kiss and/or sexually exclusive relationship. C. During my speech, I have talked about the years of social change concerning the history of relationships, also what research has shown in regards to cheating, and finally how IQ plays a major part in the attitude of relationships. D. This way you won't fall deeply in love with someone who might just be a hunter in disguise ... 5 Works Cited Knox, D., Vail-Smith,K, and Zusman, M. ""MEN ARE DOGS": IS THE STEREOTYPE JUSTIFIED?
