JOB DESCRIPTION Title: STOP THE TRAFFIK Financial Times Seasonal Appeal Internship Team: STOP THE TRAFFIK Location: Millbank Tower, 21-24 Millbank, Westminster, London SW1P 4QP Hours: Full Time (minimum 3 days/week) Occasional weekend and evening working required to coincide with the appeal activity Duration: 6 Months starting week commencing 5th October 2015 Expenses: London travel expenses only (Zone 1-3) Line Management: STOP THE TRAFFIK CEO Working with: Global and UK STOP THE TRAFFIK team based in the HQ office in central London; External Fundraising Consultant and Mentor; Financial Times Staff; FTSE Business Partners and Corporate Subscribers. Gathering and Sharing Knowledge We gather and analyse information from individuals and stakeholders around the world on how and where trafficking is taking place. We share this knowledge generously in order to enable effective prevention of human trafficking. In August 2015 the Financial Times announced STOP THE TRAFFIK as its 2015/16 seasonal appeal partner. Financial Times appeals have raised £16m for charities over the past 10 years, running from November through to the end of January, raising money and awareness through editorial coverage and advertising space. Staff voted for STOP THE TRAFFIK and readers and corporate partners will be encouraged to donate. This internship role is a one-off opportunity to gain hands-on experience of account management and coordination of a charity-of-the-year corporate partnership, for one of the best performing corporate seasonal appeals in the sector. You will work closely with both the Financial Times and colleagues at STOP THE TRAFFIK to take a lead coordination role on the Appeal and optimise fundraising success which will contribute directly to preventing trafficking in both the UK and around the world. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND SPECIFIC DUTIES: 1. Relationship Management: Daily contact and relationship management with Financial Times Staff, being the primary point of contact for varied fundraising projects and representing STOP THE TRAFFIK in the most efficient and responsive light at all times. 2. Project Management: Project-managing and coordinating fundraising activities across all income streams and projects, keeping excellent records, data and notes from all committees and task groups, updating contact management systems, monitoring progress and reporting regularly on progress, both in writing and verbally to varied stakeholders. 3. Fundraising from Financial Times readers: liaising with the editorial teams (at STOP THE TRAFFIK and Financial Times), establishing systems and processes for receiving donations, thanking donations and inputting data for future use onto the STOP THE TRAFFIK database. 4. Employee Fundraising: working with STOP THE TRAFFIK colleagues to generate case studies, fundraising ideas and activities, which support employee fundraising activities. 5. Business Partners: relationship-building with all corporate business partners developed through the Financial Times Charity Appeal, providing excellent account management and fundraising development. 6. Event Management: working with Financial Times and STOP THE TRAFFIK staff to ensure the effective delivery and project management of key events (e.g. receptions, knowledge seminars and final charity ball, amongst other events). 7. Volunteer Management: recruiting, supporting and inspiring STOP THE TRAFFIK volunteers to support the Financial Times Charity Appeal where required. Writing Fundraising Materials: creating fundraising materials, writing case studies, developing content for the Charity Appeal website as required. 9. Administration: to work closely with the STOP THE TRAFFIK team on the day-to-day administration of the Seasonal Appeal including responding to general enquiries (phone, e-mail, letters and processing orders for materials, speakers, editorial themes and content). 10. Other requests: to carry out any other duties as reasonably requested and to work alongside all members of STOP THE TRAFFIK staff, interns and volunteers. Your supervision will be committed and hands-on: you will access a weekly mentoring session from an experienced fundraising consultant employed by STOP THE TRAFFIK who will be working beside you within the charity and on the Financial Times charity appeal. You will develop first class project management skills with an employment recommendation through evidence of successful delivery. You will gain an outstanding insight of multiple business-charity partnerships and how they operate. You will gain experience of collaborative working, donor communication and an in depth understanding of corporate fundraising principles. Effective delivery in the post will give you the opportunity to pursue a corporate fundraising job in the third sector. Knowledge of corporate fundraising practice and an understanding of the benefits and pitfalls. Knowledge and understanding of fundraising and fundraising techniques. Awareness of STOP THE TRAFFIK. Basic-level insight to how charities and NGOs operate in the UK and they contrast with companies and public sector bodies. An understanding of basic issues around human trafficking A good level of commercial awareness and the connection between human trafficking and business. Practical experience of fundraising from your education, your own personal networks or previous work experience Past experience of being a charity supporter or activist for an issue / campaign or organisation Excellent oral and written English To have worked and gained practical experience in any of the following: Writing for diverse audiences Event Management Account/Client Management Project/Systems Management Demonstrate competency and clearthinking under pressure.
