Paper 2 Essay #2
Due: 5/1
Directions: Answer one essay question only. You must base your answer on at least
two of the Part 3 works you have studied (Plath, Auden, Whitman, Keats). Answers
which are not based on a discussion of at least two Part 3 works will not score high
marks.
Remember that on the actual Paper 2 you will not be permitted to bring copies of the
works you have studied into the examination room.
Poetry:
1. “Poetry is language that always means more.” Referring to at least two poets
in your study, explore the creation and effectiveness of multiple levels of
meaning.
2. Discuss the ways in which at least two poets in your study have offered the
familiar as a way of entering the unfamiliar.
3. In what ways do poets use the portrayal of landscape to explore human
experience? Referring to works by at least two poets you have studied,
consider this use of landscape.
To make life easier please:
--indicate the prompt you’ve chosen (with the language) at the top of the essay
and with just the number in the title/heading box when you upload it to
turnitin.com.
--identify poets and titles of poems in your analysis.
--use MLA formatting for these essays.
--include a bibliography for your Part 3 poems. This is easy to do since all of
the Part 3 poems we’ve read come from published collections.
Essays are due to turnitin.com. Again, make certain that you have in fact
uploaded the essay. If you cannot upload the essay then you need to email it to
me at: brian.nelson@spps.org before midnight.
If you are having difficulties let me know in advance. But, an Internet issue the
night the essay is due is not a valid excuse for a late paper. Get this done as
early as you can.
