JOB TITLE: JIG TECHNICAL MANAGER REPORTS TO: General Manager, JIG JOB PURPOSE: The Technical Manager role supports all the technical elements of JIG Committee work. Additionally, the Technical Manager will develop agenda items and implement actions, highlighted by JIG Members and Committees, and identify trends, behaviours and issues arising from Inspections for inclusion in future Standards, Workshops and Training. Provide leadership and personally driving the programme of improvement and growth as identified by the JIG council, JIG members and the JIG General Manager DIMENSIONS: Budget influence JVs influenced c. £750k 150+ Facilities operating to JIG 2500 + Membership Over 75 Committees influenced Up to 7 (100 persons) 1 PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Accountable for driving JIG’s Technical vision, identifying trends and industry issues and developing a course of actions via the relevant Committees or directly to the industry. 2. Where appropriate, the successful candidate is expected to get personally involved in operational delivery of key initiatives, being actively involved with working groups as well as providing structure, project management duties, and personally delivering services. 3. Accountable for the creation and documenting of the technical content of JIG Standards, and other JIG Publications and communications from JIG. 4. Drive the activities of the JIG Technical Committees and Working Groups that develop JIG Standards, JIG Bulletins and Inspection Checklists and responsible for the approvals process, prior to publication. 5. Providing the necessary support for JIG Technical Committees and Working Group Chairs, and being responsible for progressing agreed actions. 6. Managing the JIG Inspection Programme and communicating output from the JIG Inspection Tracking System, meeting the requirements of the Operations Committee and JIG Council to have comprehensive and accurate data, highlighting trends and issues quarterly. 7. Deliver the Technical goals of the JIG Council on agreed timescales. 8. Working with the JIG GM and appropriate Member representatives, actively Manage and Facilitate the JIG Workshops and Training activities and communicate JIG technical activities to JIG Member Companies and the wider industry. 9. Acts as the link between Council and the assigned Committees and, with support, ensure that the Committees deliver the goals as agreed by Council, and reporting back to Council on progress and issues. 10. Provide leadership to ensure that the JIG Technical products and services (especially JITS) are working effectively and deliver the goals and objectives of council, additionally developing and delivering initiatives for continuous improvement. 11. Ensure the successful delivery of the JIG strategy for its HSSE-MS to JIG JVs. 12. Oversee the implementation of the Dashboard project and associated initiatives to bring maximum value to the JIG JV’s and the JIG members. 2 13. As JIG grows, ensure the protection of the Intellectual Property, as well as leveraging the same to secure maximum value for JIG. 14. Ensure JIG meets the obligations of service agreements it has undertaken to provide e.g. Tarbox Secretariat. 15. To work across all JIG activities to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, including competition law, seeking and taking advice from legal counsel in this regard. The JIG standards are the global benchmark, and over 40% of jet fuel in the world is supplied through more than 2500 facilities that follow JIG Standards. The vision of JIG is to be the leading internationally recognised forum where experts in all aspects of the aviation fuel supply industry can come together to establish and enhance standards for the safe handling and quality control of aviation fuels globally, and that those standards are recognised and endorsed by all parties with a stake in the industry. JIG is in the fourth year of implementation of a strategic plan to deliver its key strategic goals and it is imperative we deliver on commitments to our growing number of members and align with key industry stakeholders. The successful candidate will be expected to work full time, be home based (preferably in the UK), and will work in accordance with agreed policies, procedures and practice inclusive of Health & Safety at Work requirements and Equal Opportunities and will undertake any other duties necessary to this post as delegated by the JIG General Manager and the JIG Council. The successful candidate is likely to be required to undertake some foreign travel in support of this role. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE and BACKGROUND Experienced professional (12 + years), with operations or technical management experience in the Aviation Fuels business. Drive, persistence, significant communication skills, some commercial acumen combined with power of analysis and the ability to understand and communicate within the organisation and stakeholders. He or she will be required make a significant 3 impact to the technical direction of the JIG business. COMPETENCE REQUIREMENTS Key competencies required include: Formal training in a physical science, engineering or business management discipline. Good technical writing skills Strong persuasion and representation skills within and outside of JIG Knowledge of aviation fuel joint ventures, Strong working knowledge of aviation operational practices, aware and able to drive and implement continuous improvement processes. Strong analytical skills, and the drive and ability to translate information into relevant action. Networking ability and the power to influence and direct with no direct line reporting responsibilities. Sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to work with and through varying cultural approaches to achieve optimal global goals. Project Management, ability to prepare terms of reference, scope projects, identify key milestones and timelines for execution.
