Level 1 and Level 2 Tennis Coaching Assistants What do we want? Host Organisations Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Role Titles Tennis Coaching Assistant (Level 1) Tennis Coaching Assistant (Level 2) Description The LTA are looking for additional level 1 and 2 Tennis Coaching Assistants to work on Community Tennis sessions across the Leeds area. This will include supporting community programmes in West Yorkshire including parks, leisure centres, club community programmes, and ‘Great British Tennis Weekend’ events. While we are open to applications for Level 1 and 2 Coaching Assistants, our priority is to recruit additional Level 2 assistants to lead activity This is a unique opportunity to be involved in developing new Tennis provision across Leeds, gain a Tennis coaching qualification and a valuable experience as a pathway into a Tennis coaching career. Potential hours required Pattern and Rate of Pay and Training Details Voluntary position delivering Community Tennis sessions in West Yorkshire during 2015, for a minimum of: o 20 hours for Level 2 posts. o 15 hours for Level 1 posts In return for their voluntary hours Tennis Coaching Assistants will be part funded to attend a Level 1 or Level 2 Tennis Coaching Qualification. Following the voluntary hours it is anticipated you will be able to continue to support Community or Club Tennis programmes in West Yorkshire – this could potentially be paid or unpaid work. Available to attend one of the relevant coaching courses – currently available course dates are: o Level 1 – 17/18 Oct & 15 Nov (John Charles Centre, Leeds) o Course dates at Leeds Becket University will be released in August. Person Specification Skills: Good communication Organised with good time management Good people skills and ability to work with children and adults Knowledge: A basic understanding of Tennis Awareness of Tennis participation products Desirable experience of: Assisting in the planning and delivery of Tennis in a participation session progressing to a club environment Coaching a wide range of ages and abilities Additionally, those applying for the Level 2 posts must hold a Level 1 Tennis coaching qualification or the ability to fast track (i.e. PE teacher or L3 coach in another sport and tennis ability) Desirable Prerequisites /Qualifications Safeguarding & Protecting Children, Emergency First Aid Success applicants will be required to undergo a DBS check Responsible to LTA Regional Tennis Participation Manager and a specified Tennis Mentor appointed by the LTA for the programme The Offer What Will This Opportunity Provide You With? The experience you will gain Coaching experience, group management, motivating young adults to participate in sport, knowledge of Tennis products and coaching schemes, progressive learning, working as an individual and as part of a team, working under the supervision of a mentor coach. An opportunity to progress into a Tennis Club Coach including key contacts in the club and LTA. Qualifications you will attain: Either a Level 1 Tennis Coaching Assistant qualification (75% funded) or a Level 2 Tennis Coaching Assistant qualification (50% funded) Additional information which might be of interest: After completing the course, as well as undertaking your volunteer hours, we will promote your availability to Tennis Clubs and other organisations in West Yorkshire so you can apply for the paid opportunities that arise. There will also be opportunities to progress to the level 2 Tennis coaching qualification or the LTA’s Tennis Scholarship Programme in Leeds.
