Transition Have all students stand on/around baseline and go over how to keep score in tennis. Then explain the Worm Game Task 1 Worm Game. There will be 5 students per team. 1 team of 5 will stand on one baseline and the other team of 5 will stand on the opposite baseline across the net. Both teams will stand in a single file line. Each team will have 1 racket. The team with the ball will hit the ball in to start the game, once the ball is hit, the student that hit the tennis ball will hand their racket to the student in line behind him/her. If the ball hits the net or goes out, the point goes to the other team. Students will keep score like in a regular tennis game with Love, 15, 30, 40….etc. Students will continue to play and hand their racket back to the next person in line on their team until a team reaches 40. Then the winning team will move up in courts and the team that lost will move down in courts so that there is a rotation of teams playing eachother. The winning team on the winning court will stay where they are! Love=0 15, 30, 40, Deuce, Add in and Add Out Transition Explain and Demonstrate the Tennis Volley Task 2 Allow students to practice the volley with a partner. Challenge students by saying the first team to volley the tennis ball back and forth 10x in a row without it hitting the ground wins! Transition Task 3 2 sets of volley partners per court Closure of lesson – Check for understanding- go over preparation, execution, and follow through Going over the set next class period
