Job Title Department Location Line Manager (Job Title) AHDB JOB DESCRIPTION IS Infrastructure Analyst Information Services Stoneleigh IS Infrastructure Manager MAIN PURPOSE OF THE DEPARTMENT AND JOB The Information Services department provides an internal source of knowledge, expertise, advice and assistance for all matters technical. The team is tasked with delivering a range of projects in line with the agreed IT Strategy. Major areas of activity include: Provide, manage and support a cost-effective, flexible and secure IS infrastructure providing a range of 'core' services including the ability to collect, process and disseminate data on agricultural markets in order to promote efficient production and marketing of each sector of AHDB’s activities. Maintain an awareness of technological developments, suggesting areas of opportunity to colleagues where appropriate as well as reacting to colleague requests. Provide, manage and support a cost-effective and flexible telecommunications infrastructure (both fixed and mobile). Provide a systems development resource delivering development projects for colleagues where appropriate and cost-effective. Provide maintenance and support services for internally developed solutions. Provide an expert advice and assistance service for projects involving the implementation of 3rd party software solutions. Research and develop new projects to improve the effectiveness of AHDB’s operations. Under the supervision of the IS Infrastructure Manager: Initiate and manage a range of infrastructure projects either solely or in collaboration with the Infrastructure Manager in line with the approved IT Strategy. To provide a third line troubleshooting and advisory service to other members of the team, extending to second and first line support of AHDB users as required. To assist with the provision and management of physical and virtual networks that give AHDB the ability to conduct its’ business in an efficient and cost-effective manner. To conduct, document and log ‘systems administration’ tasks as required. To ensure servers and workstations are kept up to date with relevant software and hardware upgrades and maintain a stable network infrastructure in line with approved strategy. To build, configure and install approved items of hardware, software and peripheral equipment. To provide assistance and support to users of AHDB’s mobile and fixed telephony solutions. DIMENSIONS: AUTHORITY LEVELS & DECISION MAKING The role reports to the IS Infrastructure Manager. The role will be involved in initiating and managing a variety of projects. Budgetary responsibility: Cost requests and/or project requirements together with preparation of sound business cases for investment proposals. Support, management and maintenance of servers and network infrastructure. 2. Installation, configuration and support of new equipment and deprecation of old equipment. 3. Ensure the network infrastructure, virtual environment and supported services are available, fault tolerant and secure. Co-ordinate any testing required and make recommendations. 4. Perform systems administration tasks in accordance with documented standards and procedures – to include ad hoc backup and restore requests, management of user accounts and access rights, network access, file shares, mobile devices and remote network access. 5. Proactive monitoring of core services, resolving issues and making recommendations as necessary. 6. Provide a source of technical information for both AHDB users and other members of the Information Services team. Offer ‘third line’ support and act as a point of escalation for user queries. 7. Ensure that the infrastructure backup and DR plan is aligned with the AHDB Business Continuity Plan. Co-ordinate testing and make recommendations. 8. Liaise with and support AHDB staff delivering projects with infrastructure implications. 9. Ensure that the AHDB network and associated environments comply with any relevant standards and legislation. 10. Participate in product evaluation and selection exercises. 11. Create and maintain documentation relating to the network and server environment and any associated operational procedures. 12. The post holder will also be expected to carry out any other duties that may be reasonably requested by the Infrastructure Manager and Head of Information Services. 2 ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE/EXPERTISE Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Windows operating systems (including Server 2003, 2008 and 2012). Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Exchange (2007, 2010 and 2013). Knowledge and practical experience of virtual environments (including provisioning of virtual machines). Experience of network administration involving the use of Windows Server 2003/2008/2012, firewalls and the automated installation of standard PC application packages. DESIRED KNOWLEDGE/EXPERTISE Graduate level with relevant IT qualifications or equivalent experience. Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Lync. Knowledge and experience of VOIP telephony systems. Knowledge and experience of SANs. Knowledge and practical experience of VLANS, routers, switches, DNS, DHCP and Active Directory. Experience creating small scripts, preferably PowerShell. Knowledge and experience of the installation and management of corporate antivirus solutions and e-mail hygiene solutions. Knowledge and experience of the installation and management of web content filtering solutions. Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office (to include installation and troubleshooting).
