Adopting a Pet from the Pound Owning a pet from the pound or Animal Rescue League has many advantages. First of all, a child feels good about rescuing an abandoned or abused animal and giving it a whole new life. Besides, if the animals from the pound aren’t adopted right away, they might be put to sleep. Having a pet also means lots of responsibilities. A child has to feed, clean up after, brush, and exercise the pet. Another great advantage of having a pet from the pound is the price of these cute and cuddly animals. Pets from the pound cost only a few dollars while pets at a fancy pet store can cost hundreds of dollars. Once you adopt a pet from the Animal Rescue League, it will quickly become a part of your family. If you are thinking of adopting a pet, you might consider choosing a dog or a cat. Dogs and cats can bring lots of happy times to a family, and they can be excellent companions for a person who lives alone or someone who has lost a loved one. Dogs are also a wonderful source of protection. Cats are funny, and they may help to calm people down when they are sad or mad. Please consider adopting an animal. If you remember all of the advantages of adopting a pet from the pound, you might find the bird, mouse, hamster, dog, or cat of your choice. Healthy Lunches Children should eat healthy lunches in school every day. Firstly, children need to drink milk to make their teeth and bones strong. Some schools provide milk for children and this is an excellent idea. Secondly, children need to eat fruit and vegetables every day to keep them healthy. Some children do not eat fruit or vegetables and they get sick more often. Sweets and fizzy drinks should be banned from schools because they rot your teeth. Finally, if all schools have a rule about healthy lunches children will grow strong and healthy. Should children use mobile phones Many children now possess a mobile phone and they are fast becoming the latest fashion item. Children continue to use mobiles despite the obvious risk to their health. Mobile phones emit a dosage of radiation, which is harmful to the user and cause severe brain damage. Mobiles are useful, however. They enable parents to maintain contact with their children whenever they need to. There are also obvious benefits to their use in emergency situations. The recent rise in crimes associated with mobiles is a worrying trend: many of our children are under threat of violence merely by the possession of a phone. Parents should think carefully before purchasing a mobile phone for their child. Stay Safe in the Sun Going out in the burning sun without sensible protection is extremely dangerous. The first reason is that you can get extremely sunburnt. The second reason is that you can get horrible skin cancers because of damaging light rays. Another reason is that too much time out in bright sunlight can damage your eyesight. Remember to wear a hat, put on a shirt, use sunscreen and wear sunglasses. Should Animals Be Kept in Cages for Our Amusement? I can remember when I was much younger, my Dad and Mom taking me to the zoo in Atlanta. I was amazed when I first set eyes on all of the tiger, elephants, lions, seals, and bears. I remember thinking how great it was, someone had brought all of these animals from all over the world and put them in a zoo for my entertainment. Now, as I have grown older it has become clear to me; animals should not be caged for our entertainment. Most animals kept caged up in zoos will never know how living free feels. Take for example Atlanta's own Willie B. Willie B. is probably Atlanta's most famous animal, but do you think he cares or even knows. All he knows is that he has been sitting in a cage for over 20 years. Willie B. does not know what his natural habitat is or even looks like. He has never had a chance to hunt, play about, or until recently even mate. He has just been sitting in a cage day after day watching people watching him. A lot of animals caged in zoos are taken out of their natural environment and climate. These animals are often forced to live in climates they are not adapted to or even capable of adapting to. One good example of this is a polar bear. Polar bears are animals who are used to sub-zero temperatures and putting them in a place like Atlanta, where the temperature can reach well into the 90's is cruel. For an animal like the elephant, however, it is the opposite. Elephants are used to tropical temperatures year round. But some elephants are forced to live in places where the temperature is below freezing for months. Animals like these are not capable of adapting to climates humans force then into. As a kid I used to love going to the zoo and seeing all of the different animals. I did not use to think twice about how the animals must feel trapped in those small cages. But now as I am learning more about freedom and free will to choose to live how I wish, I am forced to take a step back and look at these caged animals. I realize these animals have the same desire for freedom that I have. Putting myself in their shoes I have also come to realize that caging animals for entertainment is wrong. Pocket Money Dear Parents, This is a proposal for the review of the current pocket money distribution between my sister and me. Emma is older than I by only two years and may I point out- receives nearly twice as much pocket money as I do. I think this is unfair. As far as I can see, the only reason for the difference is based on our age. I think this is totally unacceptable. I propose that we change this old-fashioned arrangement and bring this family into the 21st century! As I am now performing tasks equal to and in most cases better than my sister I feel it only just that this be recognized. To illustrate what I am claiming, I will briefly review what happened over the past week. Emma and I both completed our normal room tidy-up, rubbish disposal and washing-up duties. On top of that, my sister vacuumed the house. I cleaned the windows and scrubbed the bathroom, which, as you said yourself, mother dear, was done beautifully! I find it impossible then to understand how Emma’s pocket money could possibly exceed mine! In the past my sister has claimed she should receive more because she has trained me how to do these household chores. However, as I am now performing independently, or as an equal team member, this responsibility no longer exists. I trust you will consider this matter seriously and remove the inequality that now exists. Your loving-and underpaid- daughter, Jessica.
