Please give a brief history of the organization, listing when it was founded, by whom, and how it has served the community since its
founding.
John Bardis, President and CEO of MedAssets, founded Hire Heroes USA in 2005 after meeting Army Sergeant Justin Callahan at Walter Reed
Army Medical Center and learning of his dismal plans for the future. Bardis created the organization in his dedication to helping transitioning
service men and women who have honorably served in the US military prepare for the civilian job market. Since 2010, we have confirmed more
than 1,200 veterans hired, completed nearly 5,000 professional resumes and conducted more than 103 workshops at 31 different military
installations for 1,445 service members and spouses.
Please describe the geographic area that the organization serves.
Recognized for our best-in-class, personalized programs, we are a national organization with no geographical restrictions.
Please describe the clientele that the organization serves, noting how many clients are served each year.
Since our founding, we have developed a proven system that assists honorably discharged veterans and their spouses to effectively
communicate their professional value and obtain employment after their transition from the military. We help roughly 4,250 veterans and
spouses each year.
Please describe the primary services that are provided to the organization’s clients.
At Hire Heroes USA, we offer personalized employment training to veterans, transitioning service members and their spouses at no cost
through:

Online/Telephone Coaching: the 3-phase process of assessment, training and mentorship helps veterans understand their
transferable skills, learn effective job search techniques and create professionally-revised, business resumes.

Warrior Transition Workshops: during the 2-day workshops participants develop a post-military strategic plan, create a resume that
conveys experience and value to employers, learn how to conduct an effective job search, and practice interview techniques.

Career Opportunity Days: these non-traditional career events provide companies with an opportunity to meet and interview jobready veterans and transitioning military members who can convey their talents and experience in terms that are understandable to a
nonveteran.

The Hire Heroes USA Job Board is a free, online forum for Hire Heroes USA’s pool of veterans and transitioning military members to
access jobs posted by military-friendly companies

Outreach & Matching are free services provided to veterans and spouses to round out their job search. A trained team identifies
qualified candidates that match open positions on the Hire Heroes USA Job Board and also offers additional career resources to
veterans during job search status updates.
Please describe how the organization measures its overall effectiveness in serving the community.
We are successful every time an unemployed veteran gains the confidence to pursue and achieve sustainable employment. In order to attain
this success, we must take steps to maintain programs effectiveness: baseline standards, consistent follow –up and annual improvements. The
progress and success of veteran program goals is measured via standardized reporting. Weekly reporting includes the following operational
data: weekly number of registrants, number of assessments, number of final resumes, number of counseling sessions and confirmed hires.
If the organization is chosen to receive a grant from CCS Charity Guild, how would the organization utilizes those funds?
We request funding from CCS Charity Guild to continue the growth of our existing programs and services, enabling our organization to better
address the problem of veteran unemployment. A $25,000 donation will support 1 part-time Veteran Transition Specialist. This will increase our
organization’s outreach, resulting in roughly 25 more veterans confirmed hired and 125 additional veterans helped per year. Additionally, 1 parttime Veteran Transition Specialist will complete a minimum 103 client assessments, 82 resumes, and 483 counseling sessions.
If the organization is not chosen to receive a grant from CCS Charity Guild, what other resources will the organization call upon to
fund that goal?
Strategic partnerships and collaborations are critical to our organization’s success; we have developed strong relationships with the USO, Call of
Duty Endowment and the National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees – among other foundations and corporations – to expand
our outreach and services to even more veterans, transitioning service members and spouses. We have received the following funding for this
fiscal year: USO - $626,874; National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees - $750,000; Veterans United Foundation - $15,000;
Ford Motor Company Fund - $10,000. We have pending requests with the Call of Duty Endowment, Prudential, WWE, Valero, Shipley
Foundation and Nationwide.
If the organization is a prior recipient of CCS Charity Guild funds, please list the dates and amounts of funds received.
We applied for funding from CCS Charity Guild in November 2011 and received a $25,000 reward in January 2013.
