Endangered Animal Environment Habitat:

Students will create the habitat an endangered animal of their choice. They will choose the
animal here at school. They will research to find out what kind of environment that their
animal lives in. Using a shoebox on its side, students will show what the environment of their
animal looks like. It should include all of the items necessary for the animal’s survival.
Habitats: Ocean, Forest, Rain Forest, Desert, Mountain, Grassland / Prairie, Wetland, Tundra








Is there a source for water?
What is the climate like?
Build your habitat diorama using items from home, nature and if needed the internet. All
surfaces of the shoebox need to be covered. I should see a clear representation of the animal’s
actual environment. Your diorama needs to have a title. (ex: if it is a desert, it should have a
label on the top saying desert and who the project is by.)
Students will use the attached research sheet to find out information about their animal and
its environment. This research will also be turned in and graded as a part of the project. I will
send home TWO copies of the research paper. One paper is to complete for research and one
to turn in as a final copy. All questions must be answered with complete thoughts with correct
grammar.
Below is an example of a desert Habitat in a shoebox. The project CANNOT be bigger than a
shoebox.
PROJECTS ARE DUE: Thursday, April 24th. We will be
wrapping up our science unit on Living Things and Their
Environments. Projects must be completed with
minimal parental assistance. I want to see what the
student can create. The projects are not a beauty
contest. I expect them to look like second grade work.
