BURSARY OPPORTUNITIES 2014
The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform is currently offering bursaries
to qualifying applicants who are South African citizens and wish to commence with
tertiary studies during the 2014 academic year in one of the following fields of study.
Females and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

BSc in Land Surveying/Geomatics
Mathematics and Physical Science
BSc in Town and Regional Planning/Urban Mathematics, Geography and/or Physical
Design
Science
BSc/BA in Geo-Informatics/ Geographic Mathematics and Physical Science
Information Science

Diploma

Surveying/ Mathematics and Physical Science
Cartography
National Diploma in Town and Regional
Planning
Post-graduate studies (Honours in GeoInformatics/Geographic

Science)
Mathematics and/or Physical Science and
Geography
It is a statutory requirement in terms of the
PLATO Act (Act 40 of 1984) and the DPSA
OSD that candidates must meet the
requirements for registration with the
Council for Professional and Technical
Surveyors (PLATO) after completion of
their studies. Consequently it is the
responsibility of the applicant to ensure
that the programme offered by the
university is accredited by PLATO.
It is the student’s responsibility to seek admission with tertiary institutions and
accommodation within University or University of Technology residence. Applicants will
be expected to enter into a contract with the Department. The bursary is for a full-time
programme and will be renewed annually based on academic performance or results.
The Bursary covers: Tuition, registration, accommodation, meals, living allowance and
book fees.
