Transition to Secondary School
Senior students, the time is drawing near for you to make a decision regarding which secondary
school you would like to attend (especially for year 6 students!). With this in mind, we have
prepared the following questions and information for you to respond to.
Parents – please note that all information relating to transition will be saved in a folder on our
senior wiki for you to refer to.
Grade 6’s
1. Read the below letter (page 2) with your parents.
2. Discuss which secondary school you will be attending and why this school would be best suited for
you.
3. Visit their website and write a detailed paragraph (on an A4 piece of paper) on some of the exciting
features and programs you are looking forward to participating in.
4. Have your parents fill in the transition form below (Page 3) and return it on Friday.
5. Have your parents copy and sign the following note in your diary: “I have seen the transition folder
on the 5/6 Wiki. Signed:_________
Grade 5’s
1. Discuss with your parents the schools that are of interest to you in 2015. Decide which one is your
preferred school at the moment.
2. Head to their website and write a detailed paragraph, or more, (on an A4 piece of paper) on some of
its exciting features and programs you are looking forward to participating in.
3. Have your parents copy and sign the following note in your diary: “I have seen the transition folder
on the 5/6 Wiki. Signed:_________

TO PARENTS OF CHILDREN IN YEAR 6
Dear Parent/Guardian
PLACEMENT IN YEAR 7 AT SECONDARY SCHOOL: 2014-2015
As your child is now in Year 6 of primary school, an important decision must be made about which school your child will
attend for Year 7 next year. You are now asked to indicate on the attached Application for Year 7 Placement form which
secondary school you would like you child to attend in 2015.
A Frequently Asked Questions document has been prepared that outlines the various options available to you and your
child. When considering which school would be more likely to suit your child’s educational needs, you may also wish to
discuss the matter with your child’s Year 6 teacher or primary school principal, who will be able to provide personalised and
customised advice. You should also take the time to visit secondary school open days and attend information nights.
Once you have decided which school you wish your child to attend for Year 7, please complete the attached Application for
Year 7 Placement form and return it to your Year 6 Coordinator no later than Friday 23 May, 2014.
If, at any stage, any details on the Application for Year 7 Placement form change, you are advised to notify your primary
school immediately.
Although Year 7 enrolments will be determined by secondary schools, all communication regarding the Year 6 to Year 7
transition process must be in written form and lodged through your primary school until the Year 7 placement is confirmed.
If you require further information about the Year 6 to Year 7 transition process, please contact your Year 6 Coordinator or
primary school principal.
