Scholarships Terms and Conditions 2015/16 onwards Date reviewed: 6 May 2015 Review: INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES General Terms and Conditions applying to all International Bursaries and Scholarships – see below for Additional Terms and Conditions relating to specific Scholarships Definition of ‘International Student’ For the purposes of this document, an ‘international student’ is defined as a self-funded, international-fee-paying student (Overseas fees). INTRODUCTION The University of Lincoln Scholarships for International Students have been established to provide international students with additional financial support, to encourage academic excellence and to help raise the profile of the University of Lincoln, UK, across the Globe. For eligible students, scholarship payments take the form of a reduction in the first year’s tuition fees. OBJECTIVE The objective of the Scholarship Awards is to encourage international students to apply by 31st May 2015 for enrolment in September 2015 onto a variety of Undergraduate and Postgraduate taught and research programmes. International students applying for a Postgraduate programme to commence in January or February 2015, will automatically be considered for a Global Scholarship. 1 Scholarships Terms and Conditions 2015/16 onwards Date reviewed: 6 May 2015 Review: General Terms and Conditions applying to all International Bursaries and Scholarships 1.0 2.0 3.0 Eligibility 1.1 Scholarships will only be approved for international students who hold an unconditional firm offer from the University and have paid their deposit for enrolment for the relevant academic year and will be formally recorded on the University Finance System. 1.2 The University reserves the right to seek repayment of any Scholarship payment made in error and/or in excess of the eligible amount. 1.3 The University of Lincoln’s International Bursaries & Scholarships are not valid in conjunction with each other; only one bursary/scholarship per student per programme will be applied. 1.4 To be considered for a Scholarship, students will have to apply by 31st May 2015 for enrolment in September 2015. The application deadline for Global Scholarships can be extended at the discretion of the Director of International. Students applying for a Postgraduate taught programme to commence in January or February 2015, will automatically be considered for a Global Scholarship. 1.5 International students must have a student status of Overseas on the Student Information System. 1.6 International students who enrol on a postgraduate degree (excluding MPhil & PhD study) but do not complete the full course and accept an intermediate award may have their tuition fees reduced on a pro-rata basis accordingly. In such instances, the Scholarship eligibility will also be retrospectively reduced on a pro-rata basis. Debt 2.1 Bursaries and Scholarships will only be applicable to students who have paid their deposit for the relevant academic year in full. 2.2 Bursaries and Scholarships will not be applicable where a student has breached the terms of his/her tuition fee payment agreement or where a student has an outstanding academic fee debt to the University. Bank Accounts 3.1 Where Bursary or Scholarship eligibility involves payment to the student, monies will be paid directly into a nominated bank account, as advised by the student. 3.2 Students are responsible for maintaining up to date bank details with the University. 2 Scholarships Terms and Conditions 2015/16 onwards Date reviewed: 6 May 2015 Review: 4.0 3.3 Bursaries and Scholarships, other than those which take the form of a tuition fee offset, may be paid into nominated bank accounts in instalments. 3.4 Where bank details have not been received/are inaccurate, and the University has taken reasonable steps to retrieve updated information from the relevant student, the University reserves the right to rescind that student’s eligibility to a bursary and/or scholarship award for the relevant academic year. Timescales/Deadlines 4.1 5.0 The cut-off date for unpaid/unclaimed Bursaries and Scholarships will be 30th September 2016. After this date, save for the case of exceptional circumstances,* student eligibility for a Bursary and/or Scholarship for the academic year 2015/16 will be rescinded. Disclaimers 5.1 Information regarding the University’s Bursaries and Scholarships published outside of this document, both internally and externally, is intended as informative only and does not necessarily represent the position of the University. 5.2 This document should be referred to by staff and students as the definitive source of information in respect of University of Lincoln International Student Bursary and Scholarship provision. *Exceptional circumstance claims must be made in writing by the student to the Director of International, explaining the circumstance which led to the student failing to carry out the required action that has prevented the University/SLC from calculating and/or paying the Bursary/Scholarship. 3 Scholarships Terms and Conditions 2015/16 onwards Date reviewed: 6 May 2015 Review: SCHOLARSHIP SPECIFIC TERMS AND CONDITIONS University of Lincoln Scholarships for International students 1. Global Scholarships for PG students (excluding MPhil & PhD students) are set at £2000 for September 2015 entry 2. Country-specific Academic Excellence Scholarships - 50% of first year’s fees 3. Magna Carta Scholarships - 20% of first year’s fees 4. International Alumni Scholarship - £2000 Students must meet both the General and Specific criteria set out in this Terms and Conditions document in order to be eligible to the relevant award. 1. GLOBAL SCHOLARSHIPS - Terms and conditions Applicants applying for postgraduate programmes and who meet the eligibility criteria set out below will be awarded the Global Scholarship. There is no separate application process for Global Scholarships. 1.1 Eligibility 1.1.1 The International student must have applied for a postgraduate programme of study on or before the 31st May 2015. This application deadline can be extended at the discretion of the Director of International. 1.1.2 The international student must have a student status of Overseas on the Student Information System. 1.1.3 The International student must be enrolled on a University of Lincoln postgraduate taught programme of study on the University’s student information system. 1.1.4 International students joining the University of Lincoln from a pre-masters course delivered by Study Group are also eligible for the £2000 Global Scholarship award, subject to meeting all other eligibility criteria. 4 Scholarships Terms and Conditions 2015/16 onwards Date reviewed: 6 May 2015 Review: 2. COUNTRY-SPECIFIC ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIPS – Terms and Conditions (SEE APPENDIX ONE BELOW FOR ENTRANCE CRITERIA) There are several once in a lifetime Scholarships which are programme and country-focused to encourage international students of academic excellence to apply to UoL, and to raise profile incountry both at undergraduate and postgraduate taught levels. Scholarships comprise a 50% reduction on the first year’s tuition fees and apply to the following programmes:Canada (LLB (Hons) Law) India (MSc Biotechnology) Malaysia (MSc Sustainable Power and Energy Engineering) Malaysia (BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering) Nigeria (MSc Computer Science) Nigeria (LLM International Business Law) Saudi (MSc International Business) Singapore (BA (Hons) Accountancy & Finance) South Korea (BA (Hons) Product Design) South Korea (MA Design) Thailand (MSc Marketing) Vietnam (MSc Finance) USA (BA (Hons) Politics) 2.1 Eligibility 2.1.1 See Appendix One below for Entrance Criteria. The International student must have applied for an undergraduate or postgraduate taught programme of study on or before the 30th June 2015. This application deadline can be extended at the discretion of the Director of International. 2.1.2 The International student must have a student status of Overseas on the Student Information System. 2.1.3 The International student must be enrolled on a qualifying University of Lincoln undergraduate or postgraduate taught programme of study on the University’s student information system as per the nationality-programme combinations listed above. 2.1.4 The International student must be able to evidence s/he is of the qualifying nationality as per the nationality-programme combinations listed above. 2.1.5 The International student must have met the specific nationality-programme eligibility criteria for the relevant scholarship as per that set out in Appendix 1. 2.1.6 The International student must not have received a Country-specific Academic Excellence Scholarship for any other previous study at the University. 5 Scholarships Terms and Conditions 2015/16 onwards Date reviewed: 6 May 2015 Review: 3. MAGNA CARTA SCHOLARSHIPS – Terms and Conditions Two 20% scholarships, in celebration of the Magna Carta Tour, for September 2015 entry. One scholarship will be awarded to one student enrolled on MA Historical Studies; the other awarded to one student enrolled on MA Medieval Studies. 3.1 Eligibility 3.1.1 The International student must have applied for MA Historical Studies or MA Medieval studies on or before the 30th June 2015. This application deadline can be extended at the discretion of the Director of International. 3.1.2 The International student must have a student status of Overseas on the Student Information System. 3.1.3 The International student must be enrolled on MA Historical Studies or MA Medieval Studies on the University’s student information system. 3.1.4 The International student must not have received a University of Lincoln Magna Carta Scholarship for any other previous study at the University. 3.1.5 The International student must have achieved an Upper Second or First Class honours degree classification in History or a Humanities-related subject. 3.1.6 The International student must provide a 500 word statement with their application outlining why s/he should be chosen for the Scholarship, highlighting academic or professional achievement in the field of history. 3.1.7 The International student must have been selected by the Director of International to receive a reward. 3.1.8 The Director of International’s decision is final and unsuccessful applicants will not be eligible to appeal. 6 Scholarships Terms and Conditions 2015/16 onwards Date reviewed: 6 May 2015 Review: 4. ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPS - Terms and Conditions The International Alumni Scholarship is an award for international students who have previously been awarded an undergraduate, postgraduate taught or postgraduate research degree from the University of Lincoln and who intend to enrol on a new full-time degree programme. Any applicant who meets the eligibility criteria set out below will automatically be awarded the Alumni Scholarship at the time of their application. There is no separate application process. 4.1 Eligibility 4.1.1 The International student must have a student status of Overseas on the Student Information System. 4.1.2 The International student must have previously successfully completed an undergraduate, postgraduate taught or postgraduate research programme at the University of Lincoln. 4.1.3 The International student must not be entering the University via a partner institution or on a pathway programme such as (but not limited to) International Foundation Year, International Year 1 or pre-masters. 4.1.4 The International student must be enrolled on a full degree programme;
