IB music students, grade 12, will be pulled out of their performance classes on Mondays and Fridays for the entire class period. IB music students need time to work and prepare for both internal and external IB assessments beyond what is available in the performance classroom. As a group, IB music students will discuss and analyze music and scores of world and western culture and complete required IB written course work. All students are expected to be familiar with “Ethical Practices” published by the IBO. Students are expected to turn in original work and be aware of anti-plagiarism rules.

Performance/Creation – 50%
The performance assessment is valued at 50% of the total possible grade of 7. High Level students must do both solo performance and creation. Standard Level students may choose from the solo performance, creation, or group performance option.
Solo Performance : Performance of music of your choice. HL student performance should last for approximately 20 minutes and SL student performance should last for approximately 15 minutes. Each performance must be recorded. The recordings must be on CD.
Creating : Each HL candidate and each SL candidate opting for the creating component must produce original works, scores, and recordings together with a written statement of intent. Three creations are required at HL and two creations are required at SL. The assessment of each candidate must be based on the creations and on the candidate’s “statement of intent.” The recordings must be on CD.
Group Performance : SL students only. A selection from two public performances by each group containing
IB music candidates must be recorded. The selection must be between 20 and 30 minutes long. The recordings must be on CD.
The Musical Links Investigation – 20%
The Musical Links Investigation is 20% of your overall music IB grade of the total possible grade of 7.
Listening Paper – 30%
The written exam, based on material and concepts learned in the IB Music course and two works prescribed by the IBO is given on May 4, 2012. This is 30% of the overall possible score of 7. It is expected that the student will note that keys, modes, harmonic relationships, concepts of form, and knowledge of transposition and orchestration are required for the best possible results on the IB exam.
Class Expectations
Students will be expected to be on time to class with all of their required materials. All assignments are due on the due date. Late assignments will be docked at the rate of 1% per late day. If the assignment is not turned in due to illness, 1 extra day per day of absence will be allowed to receive full credit.
