Dear Families,
10/24/15
Thank you for taking the time to talk about your child’s learning. As
we discussed at conferences, if your child has not mastered the addition and
subtraction facts to 20, then double your efforts at home. All students will
be transferred to multiplication and division facts on Reflex in a few months.
It would be great to have 100% mastery of the second grade standard for
all students before that time! Thank you for your support in monitoring your
child’s at home fluency practice. The student homework log indicates that
students should be getting 3+ green lights on Reflex each week to work
toward mastery of the basic facts. Email me or send in a note with your
questions about the online reports. We want students to be flexible,
accurate, and efficient with their facts. Reflex is one way to practice,
please let me know in the comment section of the homework log if you are
choosing to practice with an alternative method.
Ask your child about their comprehension or view their online AR
(Accelerated Reader) comprehension quiz results (80% correct is passing).
Of course the length of the books determines the number of quizzes a child
can take in a week; however, most students should take at least one quiz
each week on their at home reading of 20 minutes each night. The program
only allows student access to take the actual quiz at school. Again, parents
and students can access their results any time at home.
The homework log and a book your child is reading are due on Monday.
A new homework log goes home on Monday with a nonfiction passage
attached to practice the skill of main idea and supporting details. Next
week, we will be moving on to the new skill of problem and solution. At this
time we have had multiple opportunities to practice main idea and supporting
details in both our reading and writing. Although we will continue to practice
this skill, students should be able to do this independently by now.
The Harvest party will be on Thursday, October 29 from 12:15- 1:15.
We will play bingo, build skeletons, and have a cookie with milk or juice. Little
Cedars requests no costumes. Feel free to join us if you are available.
Thank you for sharing your child with us! Join me in welcoming our new
student, Jakob, to our class and Little Cedars! ~ Mrs. Richter
