Summary of my Activities and Future Plans In my PhD I studied the plasticity of the auditory system in the elderly following hearing aids use and auditory training. I additionally studied the influence of hearing aids fitting order on personal compliance and hearing aids satisfaction. The results of this research suggested the existence of neuronal plasticity in the elderly central auditory system. These results were highly appreciated by researchers and clinicians, and have both theoretical and clinical implications. Nowadays, I broaden this study, investigating whether repeating perceptual tests can induce perceptual changes in older hearing impaired adults without further training. In addition I investigate the influence of different spatial settings of speech and noise stimuli on speech perception in the presence of multi talker babble noise. Planned research projects: 1. The effect of hearing aids use on cognitive skills and on social well-being in the elderly. The aim of this research is to look for further evidence for non-auditory influences of hearing aids use in the elderly. A subsequent aim is to investigate the mutual effects of cognitive training and aural rehabilitation. 2. The effect of auditory training on the perception of rapid speech in older adults. 3. The effect of semantic meaning on dichotic listening in young and older adults. 4. The prevalence of hearing loss in first grade school children. 5. What is the optimal method for hearing screening in children? 9 מתוך15
