CANADIAN HISTORY IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY CHC2D1 EXAM REVIEW Mr. Walker EXAM FORMAT Your Final Exam will appear in the following format: SECTION A KNOWLEDGE (25 MARKS) MULTIPLE CHOICE . • You will be required to circle the correct answer (4 choices) for each question or statement on the exam paper and Scantron. . • All the questions/statements in this section will come from the first half of the course, up to and including the Cold War. SECTION B THINKING (20 MARKS) TRUE OR FALSE . • This section will span the entire course from “Entering a New Century” to The Cold War. One question will come from the “French and English Relations” SECTION C THINKING (10 MARKS) MATCHING This section will cover the following topics/concepts: o Women in politics and The Persons Case, Relief camps, Berlin wall, Vimy Ridge, Appeasement, Blitzkrieg, A-Bomb, The Cold War, The Quiet Revolution SECTION D COMMUNICATION (15 marks) SHORT ANSWER (3X5 marks each) . • This section is modeled around the Grade 10 Literacy Test. . • You will be required to answer 3 questions in proper paragraph form. 3 questions on the exam will be drawn from the following: What is “Conscription”? How did it affect Canada in the world wars? Explain the cause and effects of the Great Depression. What were some of the remote and immediate causes? How did it affect Canadians How did the appeasement policy encourage Hitler and lead to World War II? What was the Cold War? Explain the string of events that occurred during this time period as well as U.S./Soviet tensions What was the Boer War? What countries were involved and what was Canada’s role Discuss the events of the Holocaust and how acts of discrimination, racism and hatred were very active between 1939 and 1945 SECTION E APPLICATION (10 MARKS) LONG ANSWER (ESSAY) . •In this section, you will be required to answer 1 question in essay form. Be sure to formulate a thesis statement and answer in full sentence form and paragraphs must be properly structured.1 of the following questions/topics will be chosen for you to answer on the exam. Be familiar with all! How significant were Canada’s military contributions in World War 1 and World War 2? Discuss the role of the United States and how Canadians were affected by the Great Depression Discuss the events and occurrences that lead to the outbreak of the Cold War between Russia and USA and how it affected Canadians and the United Nations Discuss the relationship between French and British Canada during WWI and WWII and if they progressed or regressed between those time periods. It is extremely important that you do attempt to review all your notes leading up to the exam as there are so many links and connections to be made between each of the time periods we have studied. Remember we are looking at Canada’s growth as a nation in this course; our evolution in various ways throughout the Twentieth Century. Please Note: It is very important that you review all of the Prime Ministers that we have studied during the Twentieth Century. Become familiar with the important events that surrounded them and you should learn the order in which they were Prime Minister. This will come in handy at various points during the exam.
