Career Technical Education Meeting Minutes October 25, 2011 OOI RM 420 – 12:30 to 1:30 Attendees:Christina Goff, William Cruz, Cindy McGrath, Cecil Nasworthy, Brad Nash, Anthony Hailey, Joe Meyer, Christine Park, Tawny Beal, Colin, Debbie Wilson Agenda Topic Desired Lead Time Follow up notes: Outcome Welcome Announcements All 5 min No changes to the October 11th minutes. The group agreed that more details are needed in the minutes to capture the conversations and decisions, this is particularly important for the assessment dialogue. The person taking/writing the minutes should check with Christina Goff and Cindy McGrath to make sure that the assessment conversation is accurately captured, and to the level of detail needed. Library Update Christine 10 min Christine handed out an inventory of books at the library by each Reserved Text Park department. She will send the list in the campus mail for those Books departments that did not have a representative at the meeting. Faculty were requested to get back to her on which books to eliminate, or any that they would like added. There is a library budget that may be able to assist with the purchase new books. Christine can be contacted at CHPark@losmedanos.edu. CSLO Update Christina 15 min Christina showed the committee the new assessment redesign available Goff on the P drive, under Assessment at LMC. Every department now has its own folder, including a copy of each department grid that shows the plan for assessment. Christina will update the grid as assessments are posted on the P drive. Anything listed under Improvement is complete. Nothing was deleted, and everything has been moved into folders. All department chairs were sent an email last Friday regarding the redesign. Career Technical Education Meeting Minutes October 25, 2011 OOI RM 420 – 12:30 to 1:30 The CLASS link from the remote site has errors, it was recommended that faculty not access from offsite, but from their desktops instead. Faculty can access any of their own information in CLASS from their work/office computers. All CLASS information is still there and is accessible only by the faculty who input the data. This follows the original design of the program to ensure confidentiality of student data. This information can be extracted and put into an Excel spreadsheet, which would be easier to read. Christina can help with this. Three reports from the CLASS system are available on the P drive – these are only for those courses that were assessed in CLASS: - Courses that were assessed - Courses with planning forms - Courses with improvementforms Currently, since the college is behind on course level assessments, there is money from a grant that can pay for part time faculty to complete course level assessments. Part time faculty can receive a $150 stipend based on the following criteria: - The funds are only for assessment done this year - They have completed any flex obligation (none needed for fall 2011) - If full timers are teaching the course, they also need to be doing assessment - There is dialogue around the results – this may be done during flex with other departments for courses that have only one instructor teaching the course - There is a worksheet for department chairs to complete to show which part-timers will be doing assessment for which course, and indicating how they have completed their flex obligation – chairs should send this grid to Christina, payment will be processed through Tawny Career Technical Education Meeting Minutes October 25, 2011 OOI RM 420 – 12:30 to 1:30 20/20 Vision Update, Survey Cindy McGrath 15 min Program level assessment is also located on the P drive under Assessment at LMC. If the department has a report under the PSLO Assessment Reports 201011, then they are done for this year, since it is on a 2-year cycle. Departments that have done the report, but not posted it, need to put it in the folder. If departments are just now doing their reports, they should put them in the 2011-12 folder. All instructional programs need to be in folders by May 2012. The report form is the same as it has always been and is available on the P drive. Faculty can fill it out by hand or in Word. Cindy is available for help. Based on feedback from the faculty, the college is offering another Flex Assessment Day on Jan. 19th. In the morning there will be guest speakers, and in the afternoon there will be an opportunity to work on individual CSLO and PSLOs, with coaches and assistance. The Faculty Assessment Survey is available on the P drive, also under Assessment at LMC. Some general comments that came out of the faculty survey include: - The assessment process needs to be simplified - Forms need to look like each other - 2 to 3 leaders are preferred over just one - More professional development is requested TLP meets the first and third Tuesday of the month, anyone who has input on assessment is highly encouraged to attend. They may also give comments directly to Cindy. Update Pam Perfumo 10 min Pam was unavailable, Cecil and Debbie reported that November 18th is the next meeting – this is a community meeting where LMC faculty and staff will learn about the needs of the community. Career Technical Education Meeting Minutes October 25, 2011 OOI RM 420 – 12:30 to 1:30 Follow up meetings are December 1st and 2nd and will be for CTE programs to do their strategic plans. Good of the Order Closing statements Next Meeting November 8 Len, All 5 min At CCCAOE Cecil, Kiran, Jason Cox (Posco), and Stephen Baiter (Workforce Development Board) did a presentation about their program – it was well received. Also at CCCAOE, there was a lot of discussion about the Student Success Task Force Recommendations – the major concern is that CTE and industry/careers are missing. The 4CD Chancellor is holding a district-wide meeting on November 1st to discuss the recommendations. Everyone is encouraged to read the report and to attend to represent any concerns about how the recommendations will impact CTE – or the gaps in the report with respect to CTE. The recommendations are on a fast track at the state level, and will be sent to the CCCCO Board in January, with possible legislation in March 2012. The March CCCAOE meeting is in Burlingame. Please bring an unfinished CSLO to work on, to this meeting
