The horse’s birthdate shall be January 1 of the year foaled. There will be awards for high-point champion in the 8 & under, 9-12, 13-17, and 18 & Over age groups. Classes that count toward high point awards are Showmanship at Halter, Costume, Bareback Equitation, Western Pleasure, Western Equitation, Freestyle Reining, Trail, English Pleasure and English Equitation. All high point awards will be calculated on a one horse/one rider basis. Ribbons will be given in all classes to fifth place with first place getting an additional award. Danish awards for 8 & under. ● Note: Danish classes will be placed by the judge in his/her order of preference. The top 5 exhibitors in each class will earn points toward the 8 & Under high point award. All exhibitors in the 8 & Under will receive a participation award. No horse may compete against itself, nor may any other rider compete against him/herself in the same age group or event except that exhibitors my enter more than one horse in Reining and Trail. APHA rules apply, however KCSC ground rules will prevail. No horses will be allowed in the cook shack area. NO horses are to be tied to trees, fences, bleachers, buildings etc. No loose foals are allowed on the KCSC grounds. Stallions must be handled by an adult 18 years of age or older. Do not lope or run horses in any area other than the warmup arena. KCSC reserves the right to combine or split classes depending on the number of entries. Chaps are optional in all western performance events. In western classes, exhibitors must wear boots, pants, long sleeved shirts and western hat or helmet. In English classes, exhibitors must wear breeches, coat, English boots, derby or hunting cap or helmet. Junior horses may be ridden two-handed in an acceptable snaffle bit or hackamore or one handed in a curb bit, half-breed or spade bit. Junior horses are 5 years and younger. Senior horses must be ridden one-handed in a curb bit, half-breed or spade bit. Senior horses are 6 years and older. Horses must be shown in acceptable English equipment in all English classes and in acceptable western equipment in all western classes. All equipment and/or attire is subject to examination by the judge. If the judge rules a horse uncontrollable, the horse will be disqualified and must exit the arena. Please bring and ride only healthy horses. We recommend all horses be vaccinated for influenza and Rhinopneumonitis. KCSC reserves the right to disqualify any contestant who displays poor sportsmanship or is abusive toward any individual or animal. You will be asked to leave. Class Schedule Showmanship □#1 Showmanship at Halter (8& Under) Patterns will be posted the day of the show. □#2 Showmanship at Halter (9-12)—Rules same as above #1. □#3 Showmanship at Halter (13-17)—Rules same as class #1. □#4 Showmanship at Halter (18 & Over)—Rules same as class #1. □#5 Lead line, 5 & Under—Must be led by a responsible handler, shown at the walk only both directions of the ring. May be required to back in line at the discretion of the judge. May only cross enter Showmanship 8 & Under. #6 Foals & Fillies 2014-2015 - Rules same as class #1 (Must be shown by a person 18 years or older) □#7 Foals & Fillies 2013 -2012 – Rules same as class #1. □#8 Halter Mares 2 years and older – Rules the same as class #1 □#9 Halter Geldings 2 years and over – Rules the same as class #1. □#10 Stallions – Rules the same as class #1 (must be handled by an adult 18 years or older) □#11 Showmanship Grand and Reserve Champion Class – will be automatically entered from Classes won. □#12 Costume, 18 & Over—Exhibitors to work at a walk and jog both directions of the ring, line up, stand quietly and back. □#13 Costume, 17 & Under— Rules same as class #11 15 minute break to warm up horses □#14 Walk/Jog Pleasure- For horses 4 and younger. Rules same as class #14 □#15 Western Pleasure, 8 & Under- To be worked at a walk and jog both directions of the ring on a reasonably loose rein without undue □#16 □#17 □#18 □#19 □#20 restraint. Horses are required to back easily and stand quietly. Severe penalties will be assessed if 1)the horse’s head is carried such that the point of the ear is lower than the withers; 2) the horse’s head is flexed behind the vertical; 3) the horse is excessively slow at any gait; 4) light contact with a reasonably loose rein in not maintained; or 5) the horse appears sullen, dull, lethargic, or emaciated. Bareback Equitation, 9-12 – To be worked at a walk, jog, and lope both directions of the ring on a reasonably loose rein without undue restraint. Exhibitors may be asked to extend normal gaits, back the horse, work individually, or perform other tests the judge deems necessary. Pattern may be required and will be posted the day of the show. Exhibitors shall not be required to dismount and mount. Bareback Equitation, 13-17 – Same rules as class #15 Bareback Equitation, 18 & Over – Same rules as class #15 Novice Western Equitation – Open to all ages. Rider must not have placed in the top five in any equitation class in the past 5 years. To be worked at a walk, jog, and lope both directions of the ring on a reasonably loose rein without undue restraint. Exhibitors may be asked to back the horse, work individually, or perform other tests the judge deems necessary. Walk-Trot Equitation, 8 & Under – To be shown at the walk and the jog (trot) both directions of the ring. May be required to back in line at the judge’s discretion. May only cross enter 8 & Under Trail, 17 & Under Costume and 8 & under Showmanship. No pattern work required. Exhibitors may wear western or English attire. Horses will be severely penalized for 1) moving in an artificial frame or 2) being over flexed and behind the bit. Judge will emphasize free movement and manners. Quick, short strides and/or excessive speed will be penalized. English Pleasure 18 & Over – Same rules as class #28. English Equitation 17 & Under - To be worked at a walk, trot, and canter both directions of the ring. Light contact the horse’s mouth is recommended. Exhibitors may be asked to extend normal gaits, back the horse. Work individually or perform other tests the judge deems necessary. Pattern may be required and posted the day of the show.
