LUU Club and Society Development Plan
<INSERT SOCIETY NAME>
Purpose
In partnership with you and your Activity Rep, Leeds University Union want to help,
support and facilitate LUU Clubs and Societies’ development. We want to support
your committee and society in helping you reach your goals and aspirations, short
term and long term. Whether that be helping you to increase your membership
numbers and improve the financial stability of your society, or increasing the profile
and reputation of your society within LUU and the wider Leeds community. It may
even be helping you to increase the governance and management infrastructure of
your society or helping you gain access to better equipment and instructors,
ultimately increasing your level of performance. It may be ALL of the above!
Whatever your goals or aspirations are as a club/society, LUU are committed to
helping you achieve this. In order to do this it is now time for you as a committee to
work together and complete a society development plan for the year and begin to
consider the longer terms plans for your society. The below steps will help you
through this process.
LUU Club/Society aspirations:
Leeds University Union has the aspiration to ensure all clubs & societies
- are run safely
- are sustainable
- profile LUU and the University positively.
To achieve the aspirations outlined above, we need all LUU club/societies to support
us in our mission so in turn we can support you in yours. This is where we aim to form a
joint partnership between LUU and all clubs and societies through the completion of
development plans.
The intention of this exercise is for you as a committee to set a vision for the
society(where do you want the society to be in 5 years time when you return as
alumni?), take stock of where you are in achieving your vision, and then coordinate
an action plan to start the ball rolling with making your vision a reality! So it’s really
important that you complete this development plan together as a committee. You
can even share this with your society to let them know what your doing and get their
feedback too! It’s up to you how you want to complete the plan but do ensure you
give your committee enough time to complete it.
There are 6 Tasks to complete below. Follow the instructions for each Task and once
completed email your development plan back to your development coordinator so
they have a copy and can continue the discussion with you.
Happy Planning!

Task 1 – Vision Setting:
Develop a short summary (one or two sentences) that captures where you "see" the
future of your LUU society in 5 years time. This could be to do with participation,
membership, performance, finance, committee management, society governance,
culture and discipline, reputation, community engagement, alumni engagement,
collaboration and or all of the above!

Task 2 – SWOT Analysis:
A SWOT analysis is a strategic planning method used to evaluate the Strengths,
Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats involved in a project or in a business venture
or in this context - of an LUU society. It involves specifying the objective of the LUU
Society and identifying the internal and external factors that are favorable and
unfavorable to achieve that objective.
A SWOT analysis must start with defining a desired goal or aspiration and a clear
vision for the society. A SWOT analysis may be incorporated into the strategic
planning model.




Strengths: characteristics of the society that give it an advantage over other
institutions.
Weaknesses: characteristics that place the society at a disadvantage relative to
others.
Opportunities: external chances to make greater improvement in the society
environment.
Threats: external elements in the environment that could cause trouble for the
society

Identification of SWOTs is essential because subsequent steps in the process of
planning for the achievement of your selected goals and aspirations may be
derived from the SWOTs. Therefore it is required that you complete a SWOT analysis
of your society as a committee to aid the production of a development plan.

rate them by highlighting the row and assign Red, Amber or Green depending on the severity of the action required. Red = critical
