Career Skills for Linguists is a pilot module to be run for the first time in autumn
12/13. Following the pilot, numbers will increase to eventually include a larger
number of students from the second year (max 100).
Target Students: This module is available to registered full time University of
Nottingham undergraduate students only as part of the Nottingham Advantage
Award scheme. The module cannot contribute to an academic award programme.
This module is aimed at 2nd year undergraduates from the School of Cultures,
Languages and Area Studies who are studying a language subject. This leaves
good time for them to begin career-related applications at the beginning of their
fourth year.
Summary of Content and Aims:
This module aims to help students to prepare for, and think actively about, using
their language skills in their future careers. The module will support students’
personal development and empower them to feel confident and at ease in the job
market. The module will also support students to consider development of
broader employability attributes. Moreover, it should make them reflect on, and
make them aware of, what they need in order to achieve their career goals.
Employers, staff from The Careers and Employability Services, and the
course convenor, who is the careers contact in the School of Cultures, Languages
and Area Studies, will provide support and guidance throughout the module.
