Thank you for your interest in a MaineSail Portuguese Water Dog. MaineSail PWDs is owned by Sarah
Turgeon. Sarah currently lives with 3 water dogs and a long coat Chihuahua. Sarah is highly involved
in the Penobscot County Kennel Club and the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America.
Sarah has had PWDs since 2002. She has showed in conformation since 2006. She has also done
some rally, obedience and water training and hopes to put working titles on the dogs soon. The
Portuguese water dog is a very versatile breed and can perform in many different venues in addition
to making a wonderful pet.
We occasionally have puppies available. These puppies are not on a first come, first server basis; we
match the puppy to the right family. Each litter that we breed is with the expectation for us keeping
one. We breed to further our breeding program. Puppies that exhibit promise for show/conformation
are placed first prior to any other puppies. This does not mean that our pet/companion puppies are
any less in temperament, soundness, type or structure. This difference between show and pet puppies
are very subtle and usually the decisions between show and pet puppies are very difficult decisions.
Our puppies are raised in our home from the moment they are born till the day they leave. Puppies
are very well socialized. They have access to other dogs, children adults, noises, surfaces and the
outdoors. We allow the puppies to start getting visitors at 5weeks old up until the last one has left the
house. We encourage visitors and interaction with the puppies. Our puppies are not allowed to leave
before 8weeks.
Getting a puppy from MaineSail PWDs means your pup will not only be well socialized and exposed to
the world but we also provide the following with your new PWD:

Vaccines current to their age (we begin at 7weeks with a DHPP) & wormed a minimum of 2Xs
Microchipped for permanent identification
Vet exam at 7 weeks
Contract and guarantee for your puppy

All of our puppies are sold on limited registration with a mandatory spay/neuter contract by 10
months of age. At ANY time throughout the ENTIRE life of your PWD you find yourself no longer able
to keep the PWD from MaineSail you MUST return the PWD directly to MaineSail
We would hope that prior to committing to a PWD puppy from any breeder you will do your
homework. . Please visit breeders and see their dogs prior to any commitment if distance allows. If
not ask for references. Make sure that you look into any/all health issues regarding PWDs. Be sure to
check into hip dysplasia, eye CERFs, JDCM, GM-1 and optigen to name a few. It is important to talk to
the breeder you chose about health issues in their lines or the health clearances that the parents
have. No dog can have OFA hip clearances before 24 months. All this information can be found at

The price of our PWD puppies are $2500.00 each. There is no different charge for male/female,
specific color, pet or show. WE can only take an educated guess as to how a puppy will turn out as an
adult therefore we don’t sell show dogs or pets at any different purchase price. We believe all our
PWDs are just as great as the next. We take a $500.00 deposit once the puppies are born to be put on
our wait list. We do not guarantee male/female, color, or coat type when you are placing a deposit.
We certainly consider your preferences but we don’t guarantee. We will match each individual puppy
with the home that best suits the puppy and the prospective family. We also require all MaineSail PWD
puppies to complete puppy and beginner obedience class. If you have any other questions please feel
