Rivers Ballet Studio Information & Guidelines 2013
Welcome to Rivers Ballet Studio,
We are very happy to welcome all new and returning students for another fantastic year of dance. Classes resume
on the 4th February this year which is the week AFTER school resumes. All students must be enrolled via the form
provided in this package.
Studio guidelines which are essential for the smooth running of classes:









Enrolment -All students must be enrolled prior to commencing classes .This also applies to any returning
students of Rivers. All students must have up to date information including medical history, current address
& contact phone numbers of parents/guardians. (Please see the attached form and send back to PO BOX 309

Class Times – We do try to schedule classes as conveniently as possible for different age groups. Please try to
schedule for students to arrive 10 mins before class begins. If students are continuously late to class they will
be asked to attend another appropriate class time. We understand some students travelling from Coffs area
may arrive a little late due to bus times, please advise the teacher if this is the case.
Payment- Enrolments are accepted on a term by term basis. Once a term has commenced you are enrolled
for the entire term, regardless of your attendance. An invoice will be posted out and payment must be made
strictly within 14 days of date of issue. Failure to pay fees within this time frame will forfeit your child’s
place in the class. Invoices will be sent to the parent/guardian who signed the enrolment form by email or
post. We will not chase separated parents for fees throughout the year, it is the responsibility of the parent
who made the enrolment to cover the fees.
A non- refundable insurance levy & administration fee of $20 per student is required & included in the
first terms account and covers the student for the year.
Missed Classes - No credits will be given for missed classes. Students are encouraged to make up missed
classes by attending other appropriate sessions through the week. In the case of extended illness or family
crisis please contact Meryn or Antonia to discuss a suitable agreement.
Classical Ballet -Please take into account that classical ballet requires very refined dance techniques and
therefore requires a minimum of 2 lessons per week above grade 1 level for satisfying results.
Annual Costume Costs :Throughout the year students work towards our annual end of year concert. A
showcase of talent! A costume cost is required for each student usually between $60- $90 per student per
item for classical ballet & between $40-$65 for all other classes including jazz & hip hop. Hire charges for
costumes generally cost $30-$35 per item. For extra performances such as eisteddfods and community
performances, costumes can often be borrowed from previous students and or hired.
Private Tuition for eisteddfods, or exam practise can be arranged with either Meryn or Antonia at an
additional tuition fee.
Parent Viewing Policy: Our teachers are fully occupied with the class scheduled and cannot be responsible
for supervising your child outside class times. Please arrange care for your children for the interval between
school and class. All students need to be collected promptly after class finishes.
We cannot care for sisters, brothers or friends that may be waiting for students attending classes. Sitting in
and watching is not permissible as this is very distracting for both the students and teacher.
(Parents/Guardians are invited to view classes in last week of every term)
Please take into consideration classes may run 5-10 mins over time in preparation for performances, exam
classes or the annual concert. We appreciate parent’s patience and support if we do run a little over time.
Practice makes perfect!


Studio uniform applies to each and every class. Dance clothing is designed for maximum movement of
the body, to compliment the style, clear vision for the teacher and to ensure minimum chance of injury. We
allow a 2 week grace period for parents to arrange the appropriate uniform for classes including the correct
footwear . Absolutely no school uniforms are permitted in class. If the student is not wearing the correct
uniform he/she will not be able to attend the class. This includes hair pulled back into a neat and tidy bun for
ballet or pony tail for jazz/contemporary/Hiphop.
“Commitment, Passion & Energy!” Finally, our aim at Rivers Ballet Studio is to create a positive place where
students can express themselves through dance. We treat each other with respect and consideration. Any
student who disobeys the studio guidelines, uses obscene language or mistreats studio property, will be
asked to leave the school.
Pre-Schoolers Ballet: Blue or Pink Leotard & skirt,Ballet tights & ballet shoes. Hair must be worn in a bun.
Pre- primary / Primary Ballet: Pale blue or pink leotard with matching chiffon skirt, pink or blue wrapover
for winter, pink ballet tights & pink leather ballet shoes with elastic for class and ribbons for concerts.
Grade 1-6 Ballet: As above with burgundy leotard and matching chiffon wrap skirt. Available online through
‘ENERGETIKS’.
Pointe shoes for grade 6 and above.
Elementary & Intermediate: As above with navy colour exam leotard and matching chiffon wrap skirt
(Available through ‘Energetiks’ )& Demi pointes.
Boys Ballet: White canvas ballet shoes, close fitting bonds chesty t-shirt or singlet & grey or blue tights.
Jazz (ALL AGES From Primary to Senior levels: Black leotard & black bike pants with tan tights worn
underneath. (No singlets or tank tops)
Black Jazz shoes for both juniors & seniors, hair in a tidy ponytail.
Contemporary: Black leotard & black bike pants with either tan or ballet footless tights worn underneath,
contemporary foot thongs,(No singlets or tank tops) Hair in bun or pony tail.
Hip hop for boys & girls: Casual ,clean & stretchy or loose fitting clothing. Clean sneakers. No jeans. Hair tied
back in pony tail.
All dance wear including ballet & jazz shoes, ballet & jazz tights, contemporary foot thongs, dance bags &
accessories are all in stock & available to purchase directly through Meryn at the studio DANCE SHOP on
Thursdays between 3:00- 4:00pm
I,

conditions outlined in the Rivers Ballet Studio guidelines. I agree to make payment within 21 days of invoice being
issued. Principals from Rivers Ballet Studio have the right to dismiss any child who is not obeying the school policy.
