INDUSTRIAL PLACEMENTS – Process Solutions

Salary: £16,300
Location: Bournville, Birmingham
Contract Length: 6 or 12 month placement

an Industrial Placement Student at RD&Q in Bournville, UK, you will be given broad
exposure to the world of chocolate and the chance to apply your academic learning
in a friendly, intellectually challenging environment. We give our Industrial Placement
students responsibility as soon as they join us, working on projects that will make a
delicious difference to our business. In addition, we are committed to supporting our
students in their personal and professional development for the whole time they are
with us.
The Role
As a Process Solution Industrial Placement Student within Bournville Chocolate
RD&Q, you would typically be based in a project group and may be expected to lead
project work focusing on either one or several of the following areas:
- Fundamental research into current process methods to identify opportunities to
optimise processing for quality and efficiency benefits and also to support our New
Product Development (NPD) strategy.
- Fundamental research into new process technologies for chocolate manufacture.
- Design, installation and commissioning of new equipment, for which application of
safe work practises will be required, e.g. risk assessments
- Planning, executing and reporting on pilot plant / factory based trials
- The application of new technologies into product development
As part of this work, an Industrial Placement Student may also be exposed to our
Product Development, Cocoa Solution and Packaging Solutions departments, and
may also provide support to a range of other projects and project group activities.
Essential Candidate Requirements
- Studying towards a Food Science, Food Technology or Manufacturing or
Chemical Engineering degree or similar
- Naturally inquisitive and passionate about technical excellence
- Open to acquiring new skills and able to demonstrate strong analytical,
communication and presentation abilities
- Pro-active, highly motivated, ready to take on new responsibilities and build
strong relationships
- Experience of planning experiments or trials
- Able to travel overseas for plant trials/commissioning work and occasionally
work on shift as projects needs dictate
- Good working knowledge of MS Office
