Whereas:
Student Senate is elected by the Student Body to represent and voice the opinions
of students; and
Whereas:
Student Senate is a means by which student concerns are addressed; and
Whereas:
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. “develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and
academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for [its]
communities” and the purpose of the Tau Alpha chapter is “to participate in
service activities throughout the community of Waco, to better serve those less
fortunate”; and
Whereas:
Miss Black and Gold is an annual scholarship pageant which promotes unique
identities, strength, and perseverance among competitors, and which helps to
motivate young women at Baylor to focus on academic achievement and
involvement within Baylor and the Waco community; and
Whereas:
Each year the Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant gives financial
scholarships to the top three contestants based on academics, talent, and public
presentation; and
Whereas:
The 18th annual Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant will be held at 6:00 pm
in the Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center on November
21st, 2010; and
Whereas:
8 women will compete with an introduction, a performance, a talent portion, a
thank you portion, and judging based on poise and attire; and
Whereas:
The winner of the pageant will advance to the Miss Black and Gold district
pageant with the possibility of advancing to a regional and national pageant; and
Whereas:
The event expects attendance of 250 to 300; and
Whereas:
The event is open to all Baylor students and the surrounding community; and
Whereas:
Tickets to the event will be sold at a general admission prices of $10; and
Whereas:
The Scholarship Pageant will be publicized with banners, flyers, computer slides
on campus, and advertisements on Facebook; and
Whereas:
The budget for the event is as follows:

Allocation Requested
Therefore:
$3,156.00
Be it resolved by the 57th Legislative Session of the Baylor University Student
Senate assembled that $3,156.00, which is 31.9% of the event cost, be allocated
from the Student Government Allocation Fund to Alpha Phi Alpha for the
purpose of funding the Miss Black and Gold Pageant.
Furthermore: The Student Government Allocation Fund will be properly recognized at the
event, according to the SGAF Branding Requirements.
Furthermore: Any unused money from the SGAF will be returned to the SGAF in an expedient
manner.
Furthermore: Alpha Phi Alpha will meet with the attorney general within seven business days
after the event.
