Allergan Latin American Research Incentive Award in Cornea in conjunction with The Pan-American Cornea Society and Pan-American Research Day May 2, 2015 January 2014 A pioneer initiative by Allergan to create an exclusive award for Latin America, with the objective of recognizing and awarding investigators for their research work aimed at increasing the diagnosis of Cornea and External Diseases, assessing its risk factors, and improving its control in the region. The winning papers will be presented at the Pan-American Research Day on May 2, 2015. Award As an ophthalmology partner, Allergan aims to foster scientific research in Cornea in Latin America. Papers will be evaluated by a jury panel composed of recognized specialists in the field from PanCornea. One (1) paper will be selected for the Award in risk factors, diagnosis or pathophysiology of Cornea and External Diseases. Award .......... April 1 - April 11, 2015 Award Ceremony ..................... 5:30 pm on May 2, 2015 Eligibility Scientific papers or posters accepted for ARVO 2015 Candidates shall have earned a Medical degree by the deadline for submitting studies The first author will be the representative of the paper in the event it wins an award The first author should be from Latin America and be affiliated with a Latin American institution. The study, however, may be done in other centers. An additional point will be added to the final score for studies performed in Latin American institutions. Submission Criteria Papers to be submitted shall comply with all the following requisites: 1. Submission form duly filled out and signed (personal data, address, information about the paper) 2. Digital photo of the author (taken within the past year), in either 3x4 or 5x7 format 3. Letter of acknowledgment issued by each member of the study recognizing the main author of the paper, for purposes of receiving the reward 4. Statement declaring that the paper has not been published 5. Resume/CV of the main author 6. Copy of the main author's diploma 7. Abstract, containing: title, authors, descriptive summary and conclusions. Size: 1 page. In English 8. Text, containing: title, authors, introduction, methods, results, discussion/comments, conclusions and references (*). In English. Evaluation Criteria The evaluation of papers will follow a specific breakdown that will be reviewed by each member of the jury panel. Evaluation breakdown o Clinical contribution .......... 40% o Originality .......................... 40% o Discussion .......................... 20% Scores for each item in the evaluation breakdown will be attributed according to a 0-10 point scale, where 10 represents the maximum score. An additional point will be added to those studies performed in Latin America institutions. The final score will compromise the simple average of all scores attributed by each member on the jury panel to the paper. Judging Victor L. All scores will be shared among the jury members prior to divulging the respective winners. The jury panel has absolute power in deciding the award winners. Only the names of the award-winning papers will be divulged. The scores obtained by the papers, whether award-winning or not, will not be divulged. Allergan has no role in the selection or judging of winners. Award Ceremony The winners will participate in the scientific program of the Pan-American Research Day, presenting their papers.
