MILLFIELD ENGLISH LANGUAGE HOLIDAY COURSE English Mentors (EMs) English Mentors are a crucial part of the MELHC experience. International students come from all over the world to the course for a minimum of two weeks with many staying for longer. The students come to improve their English, have fun, make lots of new friends and have a fantastic holiday in the process. Would you like to join them? MELHC 2013 is going to be EPIC and we are looking for English Mentors to join the family. What the role entails: To guide and support international students during the course of their stay. Develop friendships and model native spoken English. Support staff and students during lessons and activities. Participate in activities, sports, the evening social programme and on excursions. Enjoy the experience! We are looking for people with: Enthusiasm and a smile. A desire to help international students improve their English. Friendly and positive personalities. Flexibility and willingness to immerse themselves into the course. An outgoing and fun personality. A responsible nature and the ability to follow the rules. English Mentor ages range from 10-17 years old and if successful with your application you will be awarded a scholarship place on one of our four residential campuses, attending the course free of charge. You will be expected to keep to the terms of your scholarship throughout the duration of your time with MELHC. MILLFIELD ENGLISH LANGUAGE HOLIDAY COURSE 2013 ENGLISH MENTOR SCHOLARSHIP As an English Mentor you will be awarded a scholarship place on one of the four MELHC campuses. You are expected to keep to the terms of your scholarship throughout the duration of your time with MELHC. These terms should be read in line with the Student Code of Conduct. You will be expected to: a. b. c. d. e. f. g. h. i. j. k. l. m. n. Fully immerse yourself into summer school life. Follow the school rules as all students will. Help the international students settle in and create positive memories of MELHC. Promote the mixing of different cultures and mix with the international students throughout the day to create friendships. Positively promote the English language and culture. Encourage international students’ progress and their use of English. Participate in the activities, sports, evening social programme and on excursions. Support staff when asked. Attend meetings when necessary. Talk to staff if you have any concerns yourself or about other students/staff. Wear an English Mentor T-Shirt when directed to. Be a role model. Have fun. Smile! In some circumstances we reserve the right to move the scholarship to a different campus. MILLFIELD ENGLISH LANGUAGE HOLIDAY COURSE ENGLISH MENTOR - Terms and Conditions Accommodation (applicable to residential students): Course members will be resident in school boarding houses and may be required to share a bedroom. Bed linen is provided but participants should bring their own towels and toiletries. Joining Instructions: Full details of a start and end date of the scholarship will be sent prior to the start of the course. Safety: Regulations made for the safety and comfort of course members must be observed. Behaviour: During the scholarship students are expected to follow the ‘Code of Conduct’. Drinking and smoking are strictly forbidden at all times during the course. Failure to abide by the Code of Conduct and terms of the scholarship may lead to expulsion from the course. Personal loss or injury: Millfield cannot accept responsibility for any personal loss or injury sustained by participants. Insurance: Course participants are covered by our blanket insurance policy with Endsleigh Insurance. Medical cover: First aid cover is available throughout the course and over the counter analgesics (Paracetamol), throat lozenges and cough linctus may be dispensed by trained staff. By signing this form you are agreeing to treatment, if required, unless written objection is received in advance. Any further treatment will be administered by a local surgery or hospital. Photographs: Names and photographs may be taken and used electronically for marketing purposes – objections will be respected.
