Weaving Classes
Beginner Weaving

In this five session course, participants will learn to
weave on a 4 shaft loom. We will learn weaving
vocabulary, how to select materials, design a
project, and finish our newly woven cloth. We will
also explore global weaving traditions and discuss
sources of inspiration for weavers. After creating a
sampler, students will have guidance from the
instructor in designing and weaving a unique scarf.
This course is an introduction to handweaving and
is also ideal for those looking to refresh their skills.
Course fee covers materials for the sampler;
students will supply materials for their final project.
Looms may be borrowed from the guild with a
damage deposit.
No prior weaving experience necessary.

In this class, we will use rigid heddle looms to
create unique fabric for a handwoven bag, using
the cloth as our canvas to explore the potential of
these simple and portable looms. In the morning
session, participants will learn to dress the loom
two different ways. With our looms warped, we will
spend the afternoon experimenting with a variety of
design ideas, including the use of textured and
specialty yarns, pick up, and hand manipulated
effects. Participants will learn about some of the
resources available to rigid heddle weavers. Bring
your rigid heddle loom and discover its myriad
possibilities!
No prior weaving experience necessary.
Supplies required. Participants are asked to bring a
rigid heddle loom to the class.

Weaving Rag Rugs #102
Prerequisite: beginner weaving, must be able
to warp a floor loom.
Participants will learn how to select and
prepare warp and weft materials for six
different rag rug samples. They will learn
finishing techniques including warp and weft
protectors. Students are expected to warp
floor looms in advance of the workshop with
the supervision of the instructor. Material Cost
$20 included, other materials required.Thefirst
two evenings are for warping the floor looms,
the next 3 full day sessions are for weaving
the samples. Students will be able to weave
on their own during the 2 weeks between
classes.
Sticky Warps #104
How to warp and weave with mohair and other
sticky yarns. Weave a scarf from a warp that has
been prepared.

Pre-requisite: A beginner felting course or similar
experience.
Create your very own work of art to wow any wall in
this one day workshop. Students will fibre-paint
using a combination of wet and dry felting
techniques to produce a piece that may be framed.
All materials provided; however you may wish to
bring a picture to inspire your individual taste,
continue a theme or just show your favourite
colours. Wear comforatable clothing and bring
towel, plastic bags and lunch.
Weaving Skills Builder Classes

should be familiar with basic weaving techniques

Finishing Techniques # 103
Learn tips and techniques to finish your woven
items with a professional flair!
Bring your items and explore a variety of ways to
finish them.

Felted Picture Scarf #106
In this class you will make a beautiful Merino Scarf
that tells a story. We will use a combination of wet
felting and needle felting to create a one-of-a-kind
functional Art Piece that you will want to wear all
year long.
Bring two bath towels, plastic bags to take your wet
work home, and any art, pictures or books that will
inspire you; wear comfortable clothing and bring a
bag lunch. Coffee and Tea available.
Felting experience an asset but not required.
Some extra materials are available for purchase
from instructor.

Spinning
Beginner Spinning #107
Learn how to prepare fibre for spinning. Learn how
to spin using a spinning wheel.
Materials included, spinning wheel may be
borrowed with damage deposit.

Spin the Dog Series
Take 1 class, 2 classes or all 3

From the provided dog hair.wool blend, learn to
make your own yarn, using an inexpensive spindle.
No previous experience required

Using drum carders and or hand carders, (if you
have a set), learn to make your own dog hair blend.
No previous experience required

3. Sun Mar 15, 9-12 am #110
Learn all you need to know about washing and ,
preparing dog hair for spindling. Different blends
will be discussed.
The suitability of dog hair from different breeds will
be considered. This class will be part demonstration
and part workshop.
We can look at a sample of your own dog hair to
see if it is suitable for spindling and/or spinning.
Should you wish to pursue this skill at home with
your own dog, wool fibre for blending can be
purchased from the instructor
This class is only open to those who have attended
Class 1 & 2.
Fee $40
Learn the ancient art of Viking knitting. No knitting
or wire working skills required. While the finished
piece of jewelry will look like twisted knit stitches,
the process is simple loops of wire. In this one-day
workshop you will learn simple techniques and see
how small variations can make different chains.
You will walk away from the day with a beautiful
bracelet or pair of dangle earrings. $10 supply
charge will cover all the material you need for the
day's project. If you have small wire cutters, jewelry
needle nose pliers, or mandral, bring them but do
not go out and purchase any as shared tools will be
provided. Additional Viking knitting supplies may be
purchased at the end of the workshop if you would
like to continue this art form at home.

Knitting Basics #113
Learn the basics, cast on, knit, purl and bind off.
We will also cover basic pattern reading. Students

-Course fees are non-refundable unless the class has
been cancelled by EWG.
If you are unable to attend a class, you may transfer your
spot to another person.
-Please register as early as possible; most classes have
a registration deadline of 2 weeks prior to start of
class. This allows the instructor time to prepare for the
class. Classes with low attendance may be cancelled
-Instructors are unable to accept payment for classes,
please ensure you register in advance.
-Spinning wheels and looms may be loaned from the
guild, with a damage deposit of $350. A cheque made
payable to the guild can be used as a deposit and will be
returned to the student when items are returned in good
condition at the end of the class.
-All materials must be returned to the guild at the end of
each session. Wheels and looms are for class use only.
-Please provide a current phone number or email address
so instructors can contact students regarding supplies or
other class information. If a student cannot be contacted,
their registration will be cancelled.

Knitting With Beads #115
