Harrods Diamond Jubilee Spectacular
By, Brianna Sander
Removing their canopies in preparation for the spectacular showcasing of ornate
crowns, Harrods exclusively displays 31 crowns in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond
Jubilee. As announced on May 15th, this enormous event will elaborately display the
jewels inspired from the Queen’s Coronation from 1953. With such a lavish display,
these crowns will be lining the streets that Harrods sits on, laying the ornately decorated
windows similar to that of the Macy’s Day Parade. From ball gowns to crowns, this
extraordinary event will continue to shed light on various international designers, while
bringing us back to the Queen’s spectacular Coronation of 1953.
While the British fill the sidewalks of the 160 year old building and the streets
line with red white and blue, these spectacular displays ranging from an assortment of
crystals to an array of fabrics, the ball gowns and crowns display an exquisite collection
of talented designers. Designers including Valentino, Paul Smith, Jo Malone, Bulgari,
and De Beers, these spectacular crowns range from designers that fall across the world
making it an international range of brands showcased.
Among the display of these elaborate jewels, world leading international
designers Roberto Cavalli, Valentino, and Elie Saab take the floor as their beautifully
lavish gowns are exhibited among Harrod’s windows. Exclusively sold at Harrods, the
celebration of Victoria and Albert Museums Ball Gowns take recognition to the 1950’s
British Glamour. These extravagant designs are yet, only the backdrop to the most
elegantly extraordinary gown. The replica of the Queen’s Coronation gown designed by
Normal Hartnell tributes the day the Queen ascended her throne. As all join in
celebration and recollection, this marvelous display remains an unforgettable event.
