Placement Testing Overview Placement testing takes place on BCCC’s campus in room 927 of building 9. The full test requires TWO testing administrations, ideally on two separate days. Placement testing provides an accurate and timely assessment of a student's academic proficiency levels, which help determine the most appropriate courses in English, reading and math. Therefore, it is very important that you do the best that you can when taking all placement tests! Please note that the placement test is mandatory for all curriculum level courses with a developmental prerequisite. Students may test only twice within a calendar year on all or part of the placement test. There is a two-week waiting period between tests. Placement testing may be waived under the following conditions: The student receives transfer credit for appropriate developmental course work. The student receives transfer credit for ENG 111 and the first required curriculum mathematics. The student has taken the SAT with a score of 500 or higher in critical reading or writing and mathematics (please see admissions) within 5 years. The student has achieved an ACT reading score of 22 or an ACT English score of 18 and an ACT math score of 22 within 5 years. The student holds an associate's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in which English was the language of instruction. The student has completed appropriate high school coursework and attained a minimum un-weighted grade point average with the last 5 years (see admissions). Placement tests, SAT, and ACT scores are valid for five (5) years from the date of the test. What Placement Test Does Beaufort County Community College Administer? Beaufort County Community College administers the North Carolina Diagnostic and Placement (NC DAP) testing in the areas of reading, English and mathematics. The full test requires two testing administrations, ideally on two separate days. The NCDAP is taken via computer and contains four assessments (WritePlacer Essay, Reading, Revising/Editing, and Math). With the exception of the WritePlacer essay, each placement test is untimed, allowing you to take as much time as is needed. The WritePlacer portion of the placement test has a maximum time of 2 hours.
