PROIN WARNING
Your pet may have been prescribed and dispensed Proin Chewable 50 or 75 Chewable
Tabs for urinary control. Please read the following warning information and increase your
caution in keeping this drug out of reach of children and pets so as to avoid accidental overdose
of Proin.
A warning has been issued on Proin Chewable Tablets by the Pegasus Labs that produce
this product. The product itself is safe and effective. However, it seems that the product,
which is chewable, is so attractive to animals that there have been reports of pets chewing
open the bottle and consuming far more product that is a normal dose.
Some animals have been severely toxified by the overdose which can cause vomiting,
diarrhea, drooling, agitation or lethargy, confusion, excess water consumption, weakness,
fever, skin rending, liver function issues, staggering, seizures, and tremors, urinary retention,
bloody urine, kidney failure, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmias, red
eyes, dilated pupils and or possible death. This is a very broad list of possible signs of severe
overdose and the toxicity is dose related, the larger the overdose the more sever the signs.
Use caution when storing the childproof Proin bottle between doses for your pet. Keep
it out of reach of children and pets so that accidental overdose due to chewing open the bottle
and over consumption does not occur.
