Poster Assignment
7.27: Compare the major features of Shinto, Japan’s indigenous religion, and Japanese Buddhism.
You and a partner will research and create a poster comparing Shinto and Japanese
Buddhism.
1. Use the handouts provided in class on Shinto and Buddhism to help you get started.
2. Use the following websites to begin your research of Japanese Buddhism. Be sure to
note the differences with and connections to Shinto. Be sure to record your
sources.
3. Work with your partner to plan and create a poster that compares Shinto and
Japanese Buddhism. Be sure to include information about the following:
a. Title-catchy and easily seen
b. Origin of the religions
c. Basic beliefs of the religions
d. History of the religions
e. Common practices of the religions
f. Include at least 8 facts (2 each topic)
g. At least 4 pictures related to the information
h. Bibliography-list your sources on the back of the poster
4. Once your poster is complete, you and your partner need to plan your presentation.
Both of you will have a part in the presentation so you will need to divide the
information.
5. Remember, when presenting your information you do NOT read it to the class. You
will discuss the points you have made and provide other information not on the
poster.
6. You will be graded on the content of the poster, grammar and mechanics
(capitalization, etc.) efficient use of class time, and your presentation.
