National Centre for Craft & Design boasts two major gallery spaces that show up to 20
exhibitions every year. Our stimulating learning programme inspires people of all ages,
skills and interest levels and our shop is a cultural haven for the latest contemporary
handmade products. We are home to Design Factory and Design-Nation and offer a
unique resource for the support, development and promotion of Britian’s leading
designers and makers. We are also home to artsNK, the country’s largest rural arts
development agency that specialise in visual and performing arts projects.
Our mission: To be a world-class centre dedicated to the celebration, support
and promotion of national and international contemporary craft and design
Our purpose: To stimulate greater understanding of contemporary craft and
design and provide enriching arts and cultural experiences for everyone
through a dynamic programme of high quality exhibitions, participatory
learning, events and retail
Since opening in 2003, the Centre has developed a highly respected world class
exhibitions programme that presents exciting, enlightening and accessible exhibitions
that open up new understandings of contemporary craft and design practice. We seek to
exhibit and promote the most innovative, challenging and accomplished artist’s
practicing within craft and design today and we take pleasure in exhibiting work that
blurs the boundaries between craft, design and fine art. With a particular focus on the
contemporary, The National Centre for Craft & Design showcases the work of
established, significant and international names whilst maintaining a commitment to
emerging talent and the presentation of new movements in craft and design.
The National Centre produces exhibitions that celebrate the very best of international
craft and design and sets them within the context of popular culture to ensure everyone
has the opportunity to experience, understand and be inspired. The concepts and
themes from our exhibitions are used as the starting point for further investigation and
engagement though a high quality public programme of learning and education
opportunities including talks, workshops, curators’ talks, conferences, symposiums,
clubs, groups, activities, lectures, seminars, screenings, professional development,
short-courses, and public demonstration days.
We also operate a successful touring programme which seeks to extend the life of our
exhibitions and allows us to build new partnerships across the UK and overseas.
We are looking for a dynamic individual with a genuine enthusiasm for arts and culture
administration and co-ordination, to join our exhibition team and support all areas of its
increasing activity. The post of Exhibitions Co-ordinator will suit those looking to further
their career in the gallery/museum sector. If you are passionate about craft, design and
the arts, and would relish the opportunity to enrich the service of a cultural venue, we
