Membership Application Dear GRCA applicant: Thank you for your interest in joining the Girls Rock Camp Alliance! We are excited to review your application and learn more about your program. The Girls Rock Camp Alliance is an international coalition of organizations whose shared mission is to empower girls and women using the tools of music education to foster self-esteem and confidence. There are currently 43 full member organizations, and the Girls Rock Camp Alliance recently received independent 501c3 non-profit status. Becoming a GRCA member aligns your program with a network of girls rock camps and projects that share similar values and goals. Benefits of joining GRCA include networking, curriculum sharing, training, development assistance, camper referrals, and the opportunity to participate as a member at the GRCA’s annual conference, which brings together representatives from camps and like-minded programs from around the world. As a first step in the application process, please review the enclosed materials to determine if the values and practices of your organization seem like a good fit with the standards and values of the Girls Rock Camp Alliance. If you decide to apply, your completed application will be reviewed by the GRCA Board of Directors, which is made up of representatives of current GRCA camps and independent supporters. If your application is approved, your initial member status will be set at PENDING until further notice. Pending member organizations can freely utilize GRCA networking and program sharing and link to member sites. More information on pending and full member status is detailed below. If your application is denied, GRCA will provide an explanation and list of recommendations in order to be reconsidered for membership at a future time. Sincerely, Kate Walsh Co-Director Membership GRCA MISSION, STATEMENT OF PURPOSE, CORE VALUES & AFFILIATION NOTES Mission The Girls Rock Camp Alliance is an international coalition of organizations whose shared mission is to empower girls and women using the tools of music education to foster self-esteem and confidence. To this end, the GRCA promotes, strengthens, and expands services provided by its members. Statement of purpose The Girls Rock Camp Alliance is a professional organization that provides accreditation, resources, and networking opportunities for its members and promotes the establishment of likeminded institutions worldwide. Core values We value the power of music as a means to create personal and social change; We value efforts that actively expand opportunities for girls and women; We value positive approaches to fighting sexism; We value integrity, honesty and respect; We value appropriate sharing of resources, cooperation, and collaboration; We value using our collective voice to further our mission; We value diversity (see statement of diversity). Statement of diversity/Non-discrimination policy The Girls Rock Camp Alliance values diversity of age, race, economic status, gender expression, size, physical ability, developmental ability, musical interests, learning styles, nationality, religion, thought, citizenship status, and sexual orientation. We promote respect and do not tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, or other discriminatory behavior or expression. Pending and Full Member Status Pending Member camps have had their application for memberhip approved. Pending members may be on Working Committees and attend the conference. Pending member status can be taken away if it is found that the program does not match GRCA standard of values, is unwelcoming to a site visit, or is otherwise unwilling to participate as the board of the GRCA have deemed appropriate of GRCA members Full Member status is secured by providing an application and all materials, attending a GRCA conference, and holding at least one session of camp or other equivalent programming. Full Member camps can participate in the Annual Members Meeting, and have one vote per camp. A site visit entails any GRCA board member sending someone to visit another GRCA member or pending member’s program with the purpose of seeing their program in action, reviewing the budget, attending a board meeting and/or meeting with a board member, and possibly volunteering at the program. The steps to Pending Membership are as follows: ● Read the FAQ and Mission and Core Values on the website ● Email a letter of inquiry to grca@girlsrockcampalliance.org (most of you have already completed this step) ● Fill out an application and pay the US$20 application fee. ● Receive approval of the application and an invitation to the conference. To be a Pending Member a program must also: ● Attend the conference (March 2013, Atlanta, GA USA) ● Hold a girls rock camp or equivalent programming ● Agree to the Mission and Core Values of the GRCA ● Pay the application fee of $20. Please note: The GRCA is currently reviewing our membership fee structure. More details will be available after November 15. We expect yearly dues to be, at the minimum, between $50-$100 per camp, and more for larger camps This Membership Application is due December 5th, 2012 You will be notified of the status of your application by January 10th, 2013. Member Responsibilities ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● Commitment to communication (online, conference, site visits) Annual conference attendance and participation (at least one representative, if possible) Transparency of annual report, budget, and finances Commitment to GRCA mission statement and core values Commitment to sharing resources and collaborating when appropriate Participation in open site visit policy Payment of annual program fee Commitment to act in goodwill toward other GRCA Member camps Commitment to seek or maintain not-for-profit, nonprofit, or equivalent status (unless there is a specific and compelling reason why you cannot or do not want to seek status for your particular camp) Act in accordance with the GRCA Mission and Values when encountering the media, and speak on the part of your individual camp and not the GRCA.
