We cannot provide lunch, but tea, coffee and biscuits will be available throughout the afternoon..

Followed by housekeeping and then make your way to workshops, one to one advice session or
meet the funders.
Booking is essential for the event, for workshops and one to one advice sessions. Email

Plymouth Drake Foundation (Caroline Perry) See website www.drakefoundation.co.uk The
Foundation’s purpose is developing wealthy, healthy and lively communities in Plymouth by
providing grants to Plymouth’s voluntary and community sector, funding charities, community
groups and social enterprises. Stall will be staffed from 12:30- 14:30.
The Big Lottery (Jenny Fish Local Funding Officer The Big Lottery Fund) See website

there will be two workshops and time for you to discuss your project ideas.
Heritage Lottery Fund (Philippa Davies and Laurel Miller Development Officers Heritage

also information for workshop One. Availability for one to one advice sessions from 13:15 onwards
Plymouth City Council Sports Development Unit (Barry Mountstevens, Sports Development
Coordinator and Hayley Harvey, Sport & Recreation Assistant)

on other funding opportunities and information about StreetGames, a national charity providing
free or inexpensive sporting opportunities for young people aged 14-25. Availability for one to one
advice regarding bursaries or StreetGames involvement throughout the afternoon.
The POP Ideas Team provides support to voluntary and community organisations across
Plymouth. See website www.popideas.coop about the resources they offer. POP Ideas is a sister
project to Plymouth Octopus Project (POP), that works in partnership with Iridescent Ideas. POP
Ideas will have a stand with information but staff are available for one to one advice sessions:
Imogen Potter has over 15 years of experience working in Plymouth's Public and VCS sectors
and managing projects. Availability for one to one advice session: throughout the afternoon.
Paul Read has over five years experience of working in the voluntary, community and social
enterprise sector and has supported over £1.5m worth of successful funding applications.
Availability for one to one advice session: 14:00- 15:00
Gareth Hart has over twenty years experience of working with the social enterprise, voluntary,
public and private sector, providing business support and funding advice on a diverse range of
subjects and themes. Availability for one to one advice session: between 12:30 to 13:00 and then
between 14:30 and 15:00.

Workshop 1: Applying to the Heritage Lottery Fund (Philippa Davies and Laurel Miller,
Development Officers HLF) An overview of applying for Heritage Lottery Grants, particularly
Young Roots to help young people aged 11 to 25 to explore their heritage.

Workshop 2: (Fiona Evans Vital Sparks Project Producer), Vital Sparks! Art and culture
projects created and run by young people in Plymouth. Find out about Vital Sparks
bursaries and enjoy a flavour of some of the epic projects funded so far. No bank account
or constitution needed, young people can apply for bursaries from £500 to £5000
themselves and you can help!

Workshop 3: Applying for a grant from the People's Health Trust (Imogen Potter) See the

Workshop 4: Presenting Your Case (Jenny Fish Local Funding Officer The Big Lottery
Fund, and Richard Marsh Director of Barefoot, which manages Space Shot, a Lottery
funded youth project in Ernesettle) An overview of applying to the Lottery’s Awards for All and
Reaching Communities grant programmes This workshop will also ensure you are equipped to
present your case for Lottery funding, and how to avoid common weaknesses found in
applications. Including top tips from The Barefoot Project a current grant holder.

Workshop 5: Repeat of Workshop 4 (Jenny Fish and Richard Marsh)
Time: 14:15 to 15:15 Location: Conference Room
Workshop 6: Planning Your Project (Susan Moores POP) Before setting pen to paper or writing
a line, a funding bid requires a well thought out project idea. This session will introduce you to
fundamentals behind project design, project planning and will offer some top tips on project
management.
Time: 13:15 to 14:15 Location: Lounge Meeting Room
Workshop 7: Proving Your Project’s Impact (Gareth Hart, Iridescent Ideas CIC) Looking at
the most commonly used social impact systems, theory of change and outputs-outcomes language
used in funding and contracts – an essential part of obtaining funding and being re-funded.

Workshop 8: Legal Structures and Governance (Gareth Hart, Iridescent Ideas CIC See more
about Iridescent Ideas at www.iridescentideas.com)) A quick look at the most commonly used
legal structures in the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector, looking at pros and cons
of each and governance responsibilities.
Time: 15:15 to 16:15 Location: Café area
Workshop 9: Income Generation (Paul Read, Iridescent Ideas CIC) What can you do if grants
will not cover all the income you need? Funders are changing and groups are having to change
how they fundraise. If you need to generate additional income for your project but are not sure
about the right options, this workshop will discuss the options for diversifying your income.

By Bus:
The number 21 and 21A Citybus Service runs every 10 minutes from Barne Barton via Royal
Parade. Alight at bus stop marked ‘Mudge Way’ and carry on walking approximately 100 metres to
Rees Youth Centre. The number 14 bus from Plymstock also stops at Mudge Way bus stop.
Car Parking:
There is limited car parking immediately at the rear of the centre which is reserved for exhibitors
and workshop presenters. Alternative parking is available at:
Mudge Way and Ridgeway North car parks situated by the Ridgeway shopping centre have free
parking but only certain sections are long stay. See information boards in these car parks to
ensure you park in the correct section.
Mudge Way South Long Stay Free Car Park can be accessed by turning into Mudge Way and
following the road past the back of Rees Youth Centre. Make sure you are in the correct car park
as there is private parking nearby. No parking in the Plympton Health Centre or Pharmacy car
parks in Mudge Way.
