CHECKLIST FOR HOUSEKEEPERS All properties must cleaned and checked between lettings. Visitors arriving for holidays do not want to find traces of previous visitors and we really don’t want to deal with such complaints! KITCHEN Cooker to be cleaned after every letting, particularly under metal rings around hotplates, grill pans, oven racks and dishes. Clean the inside of microwaves. Refrigerators and freezers to be cleaned and defrosted regularly with particular attention to crispers and door edges, which become mouldy and discoloured. Check inside dishwashers, inside the rim of the door and clean filters. Floors to be washed. Mops can become smelly, so rinse in clean water after use and leave to dry. Check drawers, particularly top drawers and cutlery drawers for crumbs etc Check bread bins and wipe out Wipe work surfaces Clean sinks and washing up basins, check bottom of plastic washing up basins (often greasy and stained) and polish stainless steel sinks and taps Empty kitchen waste bins, clean inside and out, under bin lids and provide new liners, leaving one in the bin BATHROOMS Clean bath, basin and lavatory. Check under seat and lid of lavatory and on the wall behind for sprinkles from little tinkles. Polish mirrors and wipe taps with clean dry cloth to polish. Remove any hair from plugholes Wash the floors paying extra attention to the floor behind the loo Remove used soap and ensure there is an initial supply of loo paper. A small fresh soap is nice but not essential BEDROOMS Vacuum and dust all surfaces and check under the beds for anything left behind. Check in the cupboards and drawers and wipe out if dusty Change mattress covers, pillow and duvet protectors as necessary. Make up ALL beds LINEN Ensure all linen is ironed and the beds look neat and welcoming. Think of yourself as a mini hotel. DINING ROOMS / SITTING ROOMS Vacuum and dust, clean out ash from under the fireplaces, lift all cushions and clean any sand, crumbs etc from underneath, plump up cushions and straighten loose covers Water indoor plants and remove dead flowers If the house has been left in a very clean and tidy state and there is time, wipe skirting boards and window ledges. Windows should be cleaned inside and out GENERAL TIDYNESS Please make sure there is an adequate supply of cleaning materials for yourself and visitors. Check vacuum cleaners are working properly, empty bags and make sure there are spare bags. Check all lights and lamps, including cupboard lights and outside lights as you move around the house, changing bulbs where necessary. Make sure spare bulbs are available. A supply of candles, matches and a torch for emergencies is necessary. All kitchens must have a fire blanket or fire extinguisher and the house must be fitted with smoke alarms. Check batteries in alarms and change the batteries if the test shows low. Fit carbon monoxide detectors where necessary First aid kits must be supplied and kept filled up throughout the season Make sure the area around the front door is clean, tidy and weed free. Sweep under doormats, particularly if the key is left there for visitors, and that the door is clear from dust and cobwebs Visitors will feel most welcome if they arrive to find a tea tray set with some tea bags, sugar and fresh milk: also fresh flowers in the house make a huge difference. REMEMBER THERE IS ONE CHANCE TO MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION As you finish cleaning, put yourself in the position of your guest – long journey, high expectations, looking forward to getting away from their daily routine to relaxing and enjoying your house and wonderful North Wales
