GORDON COOPER TECHNOLOGY CENTER JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Director of Instruction Department: Student Services Supervisor: Assistant Supt. of Instruction Classification: Certified Administrator Essential Processes: 1. Supervise and lead full-time and appropriate short-term instructional areas as assigned. 2. Supervise the preparation of reports concerning instructional areas assigned. 3. Supervise any federal programs and grants assigned; including the preparation and submission of all required reports. 4. Participate in the development and implementation of a strategic plan for all areas of responsibility. 5. Make recommendations to the Superintendent/CEO providing for: selection of personnel replacements, interviewing of prospective employees, documentation for employee dismissal, acquisition of equipment and supplies, etc., maintaining and approving GCTC programs. 6. Keep abreast of new legislation and school law changes in student related areas. 7. Support student success by becoming familiar with students in assigned instructional areas and participate with all other staff members within Student Services in monitoring and encouraging their progress both at GCTC and their home schools. 8. Oversee and coordinate all aspects of instruction, including but not limited to: classroom management, instructional delivery techniques, and selection of appropriate curriculum to meet individual student needs. 9. Assist in the development, evaluation and coordination of educational programs which conform to state, national and school board standards and are validated by industry through meetings with staff, industry representatives, and review of teachers’ activities and issuance of directives. 10. Work with GCTC staff to develop and implement short-term classes related to the areas of instruction supervised to be offered to the general public. Work with the evening director and the public information officer to implement these offerings. 11. Support the school’s mission and participate in the team management process. 12. Maintain a professional attitude and appearance when representing GCTC. 13. Work with the GCTC Public Information Officer to develop news releases to the news media throughout the district. Page 1 of 3 14. Work in cooperation with other GCTC staff members to recruit students, promote GCTC programs/services and provide career awareness in the partner school districts. 15. Assist in maintaining a safe environment for students and staff. 16. Provide assistance to staff for the development of proposals and contracts. 17. Work with program instructors on program and professional certification/recertifications. 18. Encourage and support active staff participation in professional organizations. 19. Work with other instructional directors and the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction to assure that professional development opportunities for instructors are available and targeted to identify needs. 20. Assist with the scheduling of substitute personnel for instructional areas of supervision. 21. Perform all evaluations for all personnel in instructional areas assigned. 22. Oversee budgets for all instructional areas assigned. 23. Maintain administrative oversight for student organization advisors. 24. Maintain a positive working relationship with other GCTC staff, partner school staff, and community members. 25. Assist with IEPs and Section 504 plans related to students involved in all instructional areas assigned. 26. Assist program activities concerning GCTC and the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services related to students involved in all instructional areas assigned. 27. Manage student discipline issues in adherence to all GCTC policies and procedures. 28. Assist in updating the Student Handbook yearly. 29. Develop and maintain community and business/industry relationships by actively seeking input from advisory councils, focus groups, civic groups and/or business and industry partners to ensure that services are based on community needs. 30. Provide administrative oversight in the organization, development and maintenance of worksite learning experiences and job placement opportunities for qualified students. 31. Work with instructors, as a resource, to develop business and industry relations. 32. Perform such other tasks, assume such other duties, and exercise such other authority as may be required or conferred upon me by law or the Board of Education through the Superintendent/CEO. Page 2 of 3 Education/Certifications: Master’s Degree required with three to five years of experience in a technology center preferred. Oklahoma State Department of Education Secondary Principal’s Certification and Oklahoma Technology Center Administrator’s Credential is required. Physical Requirements: Be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations. Working Conditions: Indoors/Outdoors Contract Length: This is a twelve (12) month position. Eight (8) hour workday subject to various scheduled and un-scheduled responsibilities after normal work day.
