From the President…..
Kathleen FitzPatrick and Susan Walker
CVGC has a great year planned. We’ve already had fun workshops, informative
meetings and we can look forward to a year of terrific programs and even more
workshops, challenge classes and sweepstakes. Additionally all should be
immensely proud of the accomplishments of Set to Celebrate and the Heritage
Rose Garden. Not ones to sit on our laurels, a web site is in the works, and a
Centennial is being planned. Each of us, coming together, is making a difference
within our community. A bonus is the enjoyment we get from each other’s
company. I am glad that Patty persuaded me to take on this job. I’ve already met
interesting women, heard good lectures, and have learned a great deal. It is a
pleasure working with each and every one of you and I know that Kathleen and I
are looking forward to a year of positive community impact, education and fun.
We look forward to seeing you at the November meeting. Please be sure to RSVP
to Sally McGovern.

Set to Celebrate
To entice you to sign on for the fabulous Set to Celebrate dinner that has been planned
we are unveiling the menu! This farm to table menu was carefully selected by yours truly,
our S2C Chairs, and with the guidance and oversight of the Head Chef, General Manager,
and Asst. Manager at the Town & County Club. The food is locally sourced and the
wines carefully paired with each course. We are grateful to all for the time they spent on
selecting a menu that is sure to please.

Clean-air Houseplants
Over the years there has been quite a bit of debate about whether houseplants really can
filter indoor air by removing toxins and particles. NASA tests in a spacecraft packed with
plants showed markedly better air, but proving that plants are efficient filters in other
situations hasn't been so easy.
But houseplants can't hurt. Not only might they take out some of the air pollution, but
some think they may offer some protection against electromagnetic radiation. But which
houseplants should you pick?
The New Ecologist made a list of the top 10 anti-pollutant houseplants. They rate the best
as:
1. The Feston Rose plant
2. Devil’s Ivy
3. Phalaenopsis
4. English Ivy
5. Parlor Ivy
6. African Violets
7. Christmas Cactus
8. Yellow Goddess
9. Garlic Vine
10.

The "No Judgement Zone"
When? November General Meeting
Get your favorite photo off the computer and put it in a frame! Any subject
matter is fine. Color or B&W. Bring it along to the meeting at Sally McGovern's
to show it off. No judgement unless you'd like it! I am hoping to get people
to gain confidence in their photography abilities.
The photo must have been taken by you!
Please keep it under 11x14 size! It would be helpful if it has a brace at the
back to help it stand up, but don't let that stop you from bringing it!
Programs…..
From Elizabeth Reilly and Sally McGovern
Back by popular demand from last November's meeting, Kymrie Zaslow will be treating
us to more "Seasonal and Sensational Tablesettings". With Set to Celebrate rapidly
approaching, Kymrie's presentation will be right on the mark! Please join us for this
informative and entertaining presentation on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. Sally
McGovern will be our hostess this month - thank you, Sally. 83 Northington Drive,
Avon. Please see your directory for details.

Web Site….
From Julie Harrison
I'm working on our club's website but need the membership's help, so would you
mind adding something to the Dandelion for me? I could use high-resolution
photographs of the following: any flowers, foliage or gardens, civic projects
with a brief description and garden/horticultural links and contact info that
the membership and the public might find helpful. If any members want credit for
a photograph they must add their own watermark, as no additional credit will be
given. Please email Julie Harrison at JSH.naturalelegance@gmail.com with any
contributions or questions.
Thank you!
