ROYAL COLLEGE OF OBSTETRICIANS AND GYNAECOLOGISTS JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title Director, National Collaborating Centre for Women and Children’s Health (NCC-WCH) Directorate Quality and Knowledge Grade 8 Responsible to Executive Director of Quality and Knowledge Hours 37.5 The Role The post of Director, National Collaborating Centre for Women & Children’s Health is one of three directors in the Quality and Knowledge Directorate who together with the Executive Director have responsibility for the work of the Directorate. Specifically, the post holder is responsible to the Executive Director and Chief Executive for managing the delivery of high quality clinical guidelines within the collaboration agreement between the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG). The post holder leads the senior NCC-WCH team of staff which includes the two clinical codirectors. Purpose 1. Together with the Executive Directors and Directors, to provide leadership and high quality management of College staff and to support and advance the aim, objective and values of the College. 2. To work with the Executive Director to develop the work of the Quality and Knowledge Directorate, providing advice and support to the Executive Director and leadership and management of staff. 3. Together with Executive Director of Quality and Knowledge and the Chair of the NCCWCC Consortium Board, provide leadership and high quality management of NCCWCC staff. 4. Ensure that the College fulfils its obligations laid down in the Collaborating Agreement between the RCOG and NICE, developing clinical guidelines and quality standards, by harnessing the expertise of the royal colleges, professional bodies and patient/carer organisations. 5. Lead and support organisational change to ensure efficient service delivery, productivity and compliance with the RCOG and NICE Strategic Plans. This might include consultation with staff, promoting new ways of working and implementing policies and procedures. 6. Have overall responsibility for the NCC-WCH budget, ensuring adequate monitoring and reporting, and adherence to plan. 7. Support effective communication and consistent management of College policies and procedures throughout the NCC-WCH. Main Duties: Outline areas of responsibility 1. Member of the RCOG Senior Management Group of Executive Directors and Directors. 2. Support the NCC-WCH clinical co-directors and other senior staff in their roles as project managers and actively participate in stakeholder management. 3. Manage specific projects, including the annual business planning cycle and negotiation with the commissioners at NICE. 4. Ensure that risks are identified and managed, maintaining an up to date risk register. 5. Work with the Director, Health Policy and Public Relations to manage internal and external communications including press activity undertaken by the NICE communications department. 6. Monitor and report the progress of commissioned guideline projects ensuring that the RCOG complies with its contractual obligations and maintain appropriate projectrelated and financial records. This will involve effective communication with NCCWCH staff, RCOG colleagues and the NICE. 7. Submit regular progress reports, appropriate plans and recommendations to the NCCWCH Consortium Board for endorsement. 8. Ensure that NICE and the RCOG are kept appraised on the progress of agreed work plans and that any problems are identified and addressed. 9. Provide appropriate methodological expertise to the NCC-WCH team and the Guidelines Development Groups. 10. Oversee the effective operation of the NCC-WCH Consortium Board and Professional Advisory Group. 11. Provide leadership and management to all staff within the NCC-WCH, as agreed with the Executive Director of Quality and Knowledge. 12. Support, lead and participate in guideline project groups, as appropriate 13. Perform other duties compatible with employment, as directed by the Executive Director of Quality and Knowledge.
