Teachers are busy completing final assessments and writing end of semester 2 reports for students. We hope that many parents and caregivers are able to attend our presentation events at the primary and high school campuses and celebrate the success of your children in 2015. See details of times in the newsletter. It is an important and busy time for Year 6 students as they prepare for high school. They will graduate from primary school with a very special celebration on Thursday 10th December. It marks the end of their primary education and the beginning of the next stage of their education. Year 6 have also been participating in transition visits to the high school campus. They have experienced lessons in PDHPE Agriculture, Music and Science. These visits occur each Wednesday afternoon and help students to become familiar with the high school environment and meet some of the teachers. There will be a parent information session on Wednesday 2nd December. All parents and carers of year 6 are welcome to attend. This week, our secondary dance and music students are in Sydney preparing for their performances in School Spectacular on the weekend. This event features approximately 3,000 performing arts students from public schools in NSW. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and we thank Mr Hyatt and Mrs Hyatt for their dedication to the team, spending long hours in rehearsing and working with the group. We also thank Mr Hyatt, Mrs Hyatt, Deidre Kennedy and Mr Clayton for giving up the weekend and their time this week to accompany the students to Sydney and ensure they have this great experience. Congratulations to all students and we hope you make friends and connections with performers from other schools. We look forward to seeing the show and hearing the reports. On Tuesday, our primary didge group had the privilege of performing at the Aboriginal Room Naming ceremony at the Walgett campus of TAFE Western. This is an achievement for TAFE as they have established similar rooms on many campuses. We are very proud of our didge group as they have been learning for such a short time and they are a small, dedicated group. We thank Mr John McGregor who is the teacher and support person for the group. Students, parents, community members and staff are welcome to put items in the newsletter. The students are motivated to be at school which is excellent and students who have achieved 95% or greater will be recognised on presentation day as well as participating in a special celebration event in Dubbo. The incentive scheme for improved attendance is being extended into the high school through the generosity of Mr George Rose who sponsors the attendance scheme. Regular attendance at school is very important to make sure students have the best opportunity to achieve their very best. The Rural Attendance Scheme program is also assisting our school to improve attendance with positive events. Many students and parents/families enjoyed a free healthy breakfast in the high school last week. The primary school will enjoy the breakfasts on Wednesday and Friday this week. We hope to see many families at the breakfast. Parents and carers are always welcome at our college. Please call us or drop in if you would like to discuss any aspect of your child’s education.
