A Teaching School is based on the same idea as a Teaching Hospital: that is a centre of excellence in a particular field where high quality training by recognized specialists is carried out for teachers at all stages of their careers. The Benfleet Teaching Alliance is an exciting new partnership between three schools: The Appleton School, The King John School and Kingston Primary School. These three outstanding schools are recognized as centres of excellence for teaching and learning, staff development, behaviour management, sixth form, maths and computing and business and enterprise among other specialisms. What does being a Teaching School mean day to day? The three schools have been inundated for some years with requests for school visits, bespoke CPD, school to school support and outreach training. Becoming a Teaching School Alliance will allow us to develop a coherent strategy with regard to our support for other schools and a plan regarding income generation. An important part of this role is to assist the BTSA in generating income opportunities to ensure the long term sustainability of the Alliance. It is initially financially supported but the aim is to become self-funded after this year. New entrants to the profession As a Teaching School Alliance we will work closely with Higher Education providers to help recruit the very best young graduates and train them to become effective NQTs. School to School Support The three headteachers are National Leaders of Education and are currently supporting other schools in the local area to raise attainment. Talent Spotting We will run conferences and training courses for teachers at different stages in their careers both in our locality and further afield. We have a close relationship with Essex Local Authority who will commission support from us. Through these courses we help talent spot future leaders and assist them to take the next steps in their careers. Research and Development The Teaching School Alliance hopes to support local schools to develop educational research. One of our strategic partners, Sweyne Park School is at the forefront of educational research. Creative innovation is a key driver in our strategic planning. The Teaching School Alliance is a vehicle for extensive research and this leads to new developments at our own and partner schools.
