Eli Rosales 5/1/12 ANIMAL EXPERIMENTATION Cruelty or science? Even though animal experimentation is seen as cruel and inhumane, it is actually needed for medical advancement for human benefits. Animal research has enabled science to find treatments for cancer, antibiotics for infections, vaccines to prevent some of the most deadly, viruses and surgery for injuries, illnesses and deformities. This subject has had an immense conflict. But what would be better medical experimentation on humans or animals? Clearly testing on humans would be cruel. It is noticeable that in some faculties animals are treated badly, but recently the government has placed regulations to stop abuse of animals. In regard with that these animals are clearly being tested with medicines to find curls to deadly human deceases, which take loved one way in a painful matter. So animal experimentation is clearly all in the benefit of saving human lives. AIDS, HIV, Cancer, and many other painful deadly deceases have tortured humanity for many years. In order to find a cure scientist need to have a subject, which has the decease to test medicines and find a cure, which is why animals are infected with decease and then tested with medicines. Animal testing is an integral part of medical research, without which advancements and breakthroughs regarding treatment of critical diseases cannot be made. Moreover, testing on animals has helped develop vaccines for many life-threatening diseases like Herpes Simplex, Hepatitis B, Polio, rabies, malaria, mumps and virus related to organ transplantation rejection. If people want to be the "Heroes" and save animals, they can also volunteer them selves to be tested on. However, that same person understands the significance of animal testing, when a life-threatening disease strikes his or her loved one. Then animal testing doesn't seem to be a large price to pay. All the person wants is for his or her loved one to live longer. However, an animal lover who hasn't experienced the loss of a loved one due to a life-threatening disease is also not expected to comprehend the importance of animal testing. The only goal of animal experimentation is to use animals and not hurt humans but cure them. Although many people have been fooled to the lie of cruelty to animal experimentation. The government has recently set regulation to protect the animals, which are mistreated in some facilities. There is little merit in being drawn into a debate about the methods of animal rights groups. This shifts the attention away from the key issues, which concern science, and our understanding of the role-played by medical research in the advancement of human knowledge and welfare. Animal experimentation is an integral and necessary component of such research, and should be defended for these reasons. But even with these regulations many people want abolish the experimentations not knowing that they are saving animals and murdering human beings. Laws have been developed for the protection of animals, during the process of laboratory testing. However, some scientists break this law as well, just like any other law. Such cruelty has to be definitely punished and cannot be ignored. Nevertheless, it is also important for everyone to remember that there are several laboratories, in which animal testing is carried out in an ethical manner. Thus, animal testing is not something to be blacklisted completely. What one should be against is unethical animal testing. A survey conducted in the American Medical Association, indicates that 99% of all active physicians in the United States, believe that animal research has given rise to medical advancements. In fact, about 97% of the physicians also supported the continuous use of animals for clinical and basic research. The main reason behind this is the fact that scientists have found that there is very little difference between animals and humans. A British organization by the name Research Defense Society (RDS) that was instituted to defend animal testing, indicates that most of the complaints made against animal testing are false and that animal testing generates invaluable information, about how new drugs would react inside a living body. In addition to this, animal testing has also helped in the refinement of procedures, related to measuring the blood pressure, pacemaker technology and the perfection of the heart and lung disease treatments. Many people are surprised to read that the anesthesia, which is used to numb the body during surgery today, was successfully tested on animals first. It was essential to test it on animals, so as to find out the effects on the body. How else could researchers find out more about anesthesia? People think human beings are the only living creatures that have benefited from animal testing, like many they are mistaken. Heartworm medicine was a product of animal testing and has proved to save the lives of millions of dogs across the globe. Animal research has also provided better understanding of cat nutrition and the reasons behind the long life of cats. Moreover, several other animal drugs available today are the products of animal testing itself. So it is self-explanatory that animal experimentation is not only beneficial to human health, but also to animal health. Federal laws have been made to protect the animals being tested, so they are not abused. All in all, human evolution has been dependent on animal experimentation.
