On November 5, 2014 six youth from PathStone’s Youth Empowerment Program had the
pleasure and opportunity of touring Bassett Industries INC located in Pottstown, Pa. Basset Industries
is a manufacturing company that was started over 50 years ago. They specialize in welding, bending,
and cutting different tubing and pipes.
The youth participants were given a
comprehensive tour of each area of the
Bassett facility. Each area was valuable to the
success of the Basset Industries. Zones like the
tubing station showed us the bending process
of metal tubes some up to 27 feet long, as well
as, different forms of bending. Youth and
PathStone staff were given an exclusive
demonstration of how the Tube Laser
Cutting system functioned. This system
consisted of a high speed laser that used
geometry to accurately cut tubing and sheet
metal.
Next, everyone experienced a demonstration of a
machine operated storage system where hundreds
of parts could be systematically warehoused so they
could easily be located. Lastly, the tour ended
with a walk through the “office area” where 7 engineers
worked with different departments to create layouts
and designs. The youth enjoyed the tour and found it
to be informative.
