Project Literacy Clerical/Circulation Clerical
This part-time position works under the supervision of the Supervisor of Project Literacy.
Circulation Duties and Responsibilities
Performs a variety of clerical duties, including but not limited to:










Providing friendly customer service.
Charging, discharging, reserving, and sorting of library materials including duties
associated with branch, regional, and network transfers.
Keeping records and statistics as directed.
Issuing borrowers cards and keeping records of borrowers.
Collecting overdue fines and fees and maintaining records relating to these monies.
Performing required searches for overdue materials and sending out overdue notices
and bills for missing materials.
Answering questions of a directional nature and referring reference questions to the
appropriate department.
Answering telephone calls and routing them appropriariately throughout the system.
Keeping the supervisor informed of the need for supplies inventory.
Other duties as directed or required by the supervisor.
Project Literacy Duties and Responsibilities








Performs clerical duties to support the volunteer tutoring program.
Answers telephone calls, gives information to potential students and volunteers, records
messages and when necessary refers to proper staff person.
Maintains documents relevant to administrative process: volunteer and student files,
bills and orders for supplies and materials.
Orders office supplies, tutor training materials and library materials as requested by the
Supervisor.
Prepares and sends small and bulk mailings.
Maintains computer database files for internal use and for reporting to funders.
Maintains the student computer wait lists and contacts students when tutoring is
available.
Special projects and/or other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
Qualifications


Highschool diploma or GED
Detail-oriented and good organizational skills


Ability to work with library staff and general public in a courteous and tactful manner.
Experience in general clerical duties and word processing.

Written and oral communication skills including the ability to talk with people from
various countries, who have varying degrees of English proficiency.
Experience with computers and interest in and ability to learn further computer skills.

Physical Requirements






Light Physical effort required in carrying and shelving books, and in performing other
typical library functions.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing.
Ability to operate a keyboard at an efficient speed.
Frequently required to sit and talk or hear.
Must occasionally lift and/or move materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
Vision and hearing at or correctable to “normal ranges”.
