General Education & CORE4 Alignment Outcomes Goal Team October 8, 2015 (X) Attendees X Terina Lathe Kelvin Thompson Richard Coulter Mary Heuser Roschella Stephens Chris Brawley Mary Kilburn Sabrina Black Elizabeth West Owen Sutkowski Frankie Tack Pat West Keith Powell Quillie Hunt Brad Bostian X Guests: GenEd refers to a package of classes (18 hours) with three goals attached: Critical Thinking, Written Communication, and Oral Communication. All students in all program will be assessed at the GenEd level. Because 18 hours (or six courses) does not allow for much opportunity to fully develop the three goals, the CORE4 was developed to further develop the students skills through their time at CPCC. CORE4 goals include Information Technology and Quantitative Literacy, Personal Growth and Responsibility, Communication, and Critical Thinking. Essentially, GenEd is entry/foundational skill building and CORE4 is further building, expanding up on those foundational skills. GE/CORE4 is not going away. The purpose of this committee is to align them in a way that makes sense to faculty and students. The ultimate goal of the larger committee is to have an actionable recommendation by January 4, 2016. Last year GE Committee decided to go from seven goals to three goals. The definitions listed for those three goals are staying, however we do have the opportunity to tweak the indicators. CORE4 definitions and indicators are more flexible, but must adhere to what is already being done in GE.
