Per the Allegany County Public School attendance policy / regulations, each school is to make a call home
daily for any student who is absent. This is to ensure the safety of all children in making certain parents are
aware of a child’s absence from school. We will be calling parents after 9:45 a.m. for children on the absence
list. Parents are encouraged to call the school between 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. daily, if you know your child will
be absent, to make the school aware of the absence. Please DO NOT call after 9:00 a.m. as office personnel
are quite busy opening the door, taking care of bus notes and student needs, as well as making the daily
announcements to get the day started. Parents are able to e-mail Mrs. Rinker regarding an absence at:
melanie.rinker@acps.k12.md.us
Please remember that all absences still require a parent or doctor’s note. Send the note(s) to school when
your child returns to school following any absence. Your cooperation is appreciated!

This information can be viewed @ acpsmd.org/fl – school website
From the cafeteria: It is a county policy that a child can only charge a total of 5 lunches. Once a child owes for
5 meals, he/she will be given an alternate meal, until payment is made. If your child owes for more than 5
meals, he/she will not be given the main course on the menu that day. Example: If it is pizza day, your child
would be given everything on the menu, except for the pizza. This is county policy. Please try to always keep
money in your child’s account. Cafeteria phone number – (301) 478-2855

Please remember to read to and/or with your child at least twenty minutes each and every day. Practice
in reading is vital to the success of your child’s education.
Please make reading part of your daily schedule!
If your child has a bus change or is going to be a parent pick-up for the day, please send
a note in the morning. Also, please make sure the note is dated. A faculty member is
always on duty in the gym to take the notes and be certain the notes are recorded in our
book. Calls to the school throughout the day can be confusing to students and faculty
members. Dismissal is hectic and we don’t want our students on the wrong buses. Please
help us, in our effort, to keep your children safe. Thank you!

Please keep the Sparkler Store in mind as you do your cleaning. The children
always enjoy “buying” gently used toys, household (decorating) items, crafts and
craft items, games, etc. We appreciate all donations! Thank you!!

We are still collecting Campbell’s labels, Box Tops, and Tyson labels! Thank you for your help!
