Lawton M. Nease, Jr. and Jane Pool Nease Georgia Tech Scholarship Fund General Description: This scholarship will be awarded from the fund established by Lawton M. Nease, III, in honor of his parents. These are unrestricted scholarships to be awarded to students graduating from Effingham County High School who have outstanding academic records and indicate a financial need. The goal of the scholarship is to fund full tuition costs for eight academic semesters. Nease, Jr. and Jane Pool Nease Georgia Tech Scholarship Description: This scholarship is to be awarded from the fund established by Lawton M. Nease, III in honor of his parents. These scholarships are to be awarded to students graduating from Effingham County High School who have outstanding academic records and indicate a financial need. The applicant must be a senior or a graduate of Effingham County High School. The applicant must either be a student at Georgia Tech or be accepted to attend Georgia Tech. High school seniors MUST be committed to attend Georgia Tech. The scholarship will be $2500 per semester for a maximum of eight semesters. The selection process should be weighted most heavily on financial need. Desire to return to Effingham County upon completion of college could be a factor in the selection process. Academic performance will be the second factor in the selection process. Leadership, athletics, and outside activities should also be considered. Recipients of athletic scholarships will be ineligible. Recipients of other scholarships will be viewed on a need basis. The scholarship will be awarded upon the basis of financial need, scholastic achievement, promise of success in college as reflected by the scores on the Scholastic Achievement Test of the College Board and the recommendations submitted with the application. This application must be accompanied by three letters of recommendation from persons not related to the applicant who are able to testify to the applicant’s character, seriousness of purpose, and a need of financial aid. Two of these letters of recommendation must be from teachers or administrators. The applicant must submit a copy of the high school transcript, college transcript (if available) and SAT scores. The scholarship will be awarded during the Senior Class Night program each year. No scholarship will be awarded in any year when, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, no applicant establishes a definite financial need or when no applicant satisfactorily meets all requirements in making application for the scholarship. This application form must be filled out completely and returned to the counselor’s office not later than the due date of the year for which the scholarship is to be awarded.
