Session 1: Alternative Fuels Market Trends
Alternative fuels are increasingly common in our four-state area, necessitating a close look at safety
procedures, building codes and professional development to ensure proper use. Clean Cities program director
Kelly Gilbert will give an overview of the trends and current adoption rates of alternative fuels in America’s
Heartland, where propane, natural gas and electric vehicles are catching up to biofuels and making a
noticeable dent in foreign oil consumption.

Session 2: Regulatory Impacts on State and Local Codes
Energy law attorney Luke Hagedorn addresses the current regulatory environment for alternative fuels and
related issues impacting state and local codes, as well as potential impacts due to new and pending
regulations. Topics include the Renewable Fuel Standards, potential liabilities, zoning issues, air quality
regulations and federal policies that may effectively give an edge to one fuel or technology over another.

10:25–11:30 am Session 3: Industry Panel – Emerging Technical Issues Impacting Alternative Fuels Safety
Representatives of the alternative fuels industry will discuss emerging technical issues impacting safety for
construction, operation or emergency incidents. Issues may include fuel storage and dispensing, evolving
vehicle technologies, gaseous fuel vehicle storage and maintenance facility requirements, E15/summer
blends/vapor recovery, fuel transport, and more.
