They had only one census period together to have a family, as both of them died in the mid 1880s – first Dinah in 1885, then a year later Thomas. Both were born and lived their entire lives in Willoughby. Thomas came from a large family, and when he passed away, his brother William took Dinah’s two children Arthur and Charles to live with his family in nearby Braunston, which is just over the border to Northamptonshire. This document is a collection of the censuses that trace Thomas’ family back to the beginning of censuses in 1841, then follows the lives of their two children and their families. Dinah’s early years censuses are in the James Ash family of origin file. In 1881, his wife had died after 1874 when their third child William was born – perhaps in childbirth? – and he was still living in Willoughby as a farm labourer.
