CENTRE FOR COUNSELLING AND CAREER ADVISORY (C3A)
Introduction
We, faculty and staff, of the Center for Counseling and Career Advisory (C3A) welcome you to
join the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST).
National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) is a premier national institution that
has won global acclaim within a short span of time. Various constituent schools and colleges
functioning under the umbrella of NUST are imparting high quality education at both
undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the disciplines of Engineering, Management and Social
Sciences, Information Technology, Medicine and Basic Sciences. Moreover, the expansion of
facilities at NUST new campus, located in the tranquil setting of the federal capital, helps ensure
conducive environment to cater for the educational needs of a large number of talented students.
Centre for Counseling and Career Advisory (C3A) is a unit of NUST that provides primary
mental health services. C3A is offering this service, to all the NUST students, faculty, personnel
and families of those associated, within and outside the H-12 campus. The core objective of C3A
is to provide professional counseling service, for educational, social, emotional or psychological
issues that may inhibit personal or professional performance and advancement. The center also
conducts psychological tests for the students of all the schools of NUST uniformly. The purpose
of these activities is to provide psychological support as well as to meet the growing need of the
university to promote the wellbeing and personal development of all associated.
C3A has recently established its academic block to offer Postgraduate Diploma, Advanced
Postgraduate Diploma and MS in Career Counselling & Education. The rationale of starting this
programme is to address the need of developing career counsellors’ ability to help their clients
with improving their self-efficacy through self-exploration and understanding of the world of
work. The program is designed for the individuals who provide career advice, information and
guidance in educational institutions and other organizations. The mission of the programme is to:

Develop better understanding of “career counselling” and “career education” concepts,
skills and their role in the educational sector of Pakistan

Establish and organise good working relationship between educational institutions and
employment industry through developing understanding and database of current labour
market information

Enable NUST to become the producer of qualified career counsellors, who will be able
to impart their professional knowledge and skills, in their own employment contexts, for
the wider benefit of education and leadership in Pakistan
Location
C3A is located in H-12 sector, Islamabad and is approachable from Kashmir Highway (joining
Peshawar Road and Murree Road).
Orientation
C3A has organized a one-day orientation programme (09:30am-17:00pm) on 8th Sep, 2014 for its
newly inducted graduands to make them familiar with NUST as an institution. Students will have
an opportunity to explore about different departments and facilities related to students’ affairs.
We strongly recommend our students to attend the orientation so that they do not miss the
exclusive information of their best academic interest.
Dress Code
Students are expected to follow a proper dress code as specified below:
MALE STUDENTS
 Dress Pants and dress shirts of decent color (Shorts or Bermudas are not allowed)
 Simple jeans
 T-Shirt
 Shalwar Kameez of decent color (Properly ironed)
FEMALE STUDENTS
 Shirt with appropriate length and normal pattern shalwar (Low neck and sleeveless shirts
are not allowed)
 Dupatta or Shawl (compulsory)
 Small heel or flat shoes (high heels not allowed)
 Trousers with long shirts (trousers with slits not allowed)
Students are not allowed to:





Wear tight or see-through dress in university premises (classrooms, cafeteria and
university offices)
Wear T-Shirts/Dress bearing language or art, which appears to be provocative or indecent
and is likely to offend others
Wear jogging, shabby or torn clothing
Put on excessive makeup or wear expensive jewelry
Wear unprofessional attire in formal programmes and interviews
General Information
Identity Cards
Students will be issued temporary identity cards on arrival. However, permanent NUST identity
cards will be issued later. Students will be responsible for the safe custody of their identity cards.
In case of loss they will be liable to disciplinary action and a fine up to Rs 500.00.
Accuracy of University Records
Students are expected to furnish accurate and complete information on all university forms and
documents, including applications for admission and financial aid, references, local and home
addresses and for other types of records. Provision of any inaccurate/ concealment of information
may lead to termination from the institute. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure subsequent
updates on change of any information.
Discipline
Political activities are strictly forbidden on NUST premises, and all students are required to give
a written undertaking at the time of admission that they will refrain from politics during their
stay at school. Rector NUST has full powers to terminate the registration of a student found
involved in political activities.
The following practices are considered unacceptable for NUST students:







Theft or damage to the property of centre or of a member of centre community or that of
a visitor to centre or abetment to any of the above
Conduct that results in conviction for a crime or crimes in a court of competent
jurisdiction may subject a student to disciplinary action including suspension or
expulsion
Possession of firearms, explosives, dangerous chemicals or other weapons or the display
or use of the above to intimidate, frighten or control individuals
Engaging in conduct which obstructs or disrupts teaching, research, administration,
disciplinary procedures, or other activities of the institute
Bullying or harassment towards other individuals
Keeping pets/animals, cassette players etc or possessing any morally/religiously
objectionable printed material
Using/distributing/trading of drugs and smoking on the Campus
Academic Honesty
NUST requires all students to adhere to high standards of integrity in their academic work. The
schools follow a zero-tolerance policy for activities such as plagiarism and cheating. Students
found involved in such activities are subject to serious disciplinary action.

Plagiarism is defined as the use, whether by paraphrase or direct quotation, of the published or
unpublished work of another without full and clear acknowledgment. Cheating includes the
giving or receiving of unauthorized assistance on quizzes, examinations or written assignments
from any source not approved by the instructor. Examples of cheating include but are not limited
to:








Submitting someone else’s work as one’s own with or without the permission of the
concerned individual
Allowing someone to copy one’s work
Using a writing service or having someone else to write a paper for oneself
Using someone else’s work without proper citation
Submitting collaborative and/or group work as one’s own
Stealing a test or question paper from a teacher or her/his office
Copying a project or examination of another student
Using unauthorized materials during a test or exam
Attendance
75% attendance is mandatory for the students to take the end semester exam in taught subjects.
Students are required to be present in the classroom as per the training program. Those who join
late or leave the classroom without permission will be marked absent. Absence on medical
grounds will also be considered as ABSENT for the purpose of mandatory attendance.
Rules/Regulations
The center strictly abides by NUST rules and regulations. The programme in Career Counselling
& Education follows semester system of teaching. Grade is awarded on a relative grading
system. Students will be briefed by our staff about academic regulations within two weeks of
joining the programme. Rules governing academic performance and discipline will be covered
during briefing and can also be viewed on our website.
Registration
To complete the registration process, students are required to bring along and deposit the
following documents to C3A’s admin department on the orientation day.

Medical Fitness Certificate (if not already deposited at PGP Department - NUST)
Blood Group test report
Original SSC, HSSC (or equivalent), Bachelor & Master’s Degrees and transcripts along
with 1x photocopy of each duly attested
Bachelor & Master’s Degrees/transcripts must clearly mention CGPA earned out of
XXXX. In case total CGPA is not mentioned in the degree/transcript, students will
produce a certificate from the university concerned clearly mentioning total CGPA
1x passport size photograph (soft copy) for Institute Identity Card
1x passport size photograph for Library Card
Undertaking regarding conduct (Specimen attached)
Surety Bond duly made out on stamp paper worth Rs 100/- (Specimen attached).
2x photocopies of National ID Card duly attested.

will make the student liable to expulsion from C3A, which shall be without right of appeal in any
court of law. During studies, if student is expelled by C3A on any ground, or deliberately fails
and does not study, student will lose his/her seat in the department and will not be allowed to
continue studies in any of the NUST institutions.
3. The student will abstain from any political activity during his/her tenure of studies at NUST.
Student, if found guilty of an act which is forbidden by C3A-NUST authorities including
cheating/ drinking alcohol, etc, will be liable to expulsion from the C3A.
4. C3A-NUST authorities reserve the right to plan/issue extended schedule of classes/exams
during any part of the day, on as required basis.
